1) This isn't a pretty gun. Preferably, coated stainless, and a Hogue overmolded stock (don't know if it can be done, but I like the one on my Ruger Alaskan.) 2) Don't care what nominal caliber it is, provided it can shoot 458 Win Mag (ammo availability, in the event the cartridges don't make it.) 3) Doesn't break. Suggestions? 450 Ackerly? 458 lott? Just stick w. a win mag? Keep your eyes on Gunbroker and look for a deal. If you're looking for something relatively generic, there's no reason to build it from scratch. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

You'll likely find an Interarms Whitworth .458 Win. Mag. or a Brno ZKK 602 if you look around the 'net. A couple of hundred bucks spent to make sure the guns work right, and your 'beater' is done. George

Check out this Mauser Joe Miller bought for $450. Not a beater either. https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4711043/m/580105617 NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

How about a Mark X 458 wm for $550? Shoots well and better than reasonable condition. Frank
