I imagine there are a number of variables to cause this - coulda been the wood, coulda been the stocker, coulda been a lack of proper enforcements. however, to your question your friend could use synthetic or speak with one of the many fine stockers who haunt this site about how they handle big kickers.

good luck

I shoot a McMillan Supergrade in a Lott. Not that many rounds through it but it is a good strong stock. The design fits me well and it really reduces the recoil of the Lott.

If your friend is looking for wood, I use nothing but Accurate Innovations stocks on my big bores. You can choose your wood, and any configuration you like, and they have an aluminum chassis that the action sits in. It will handle all the recoil any 470 Capstick can dish out. Also the wrist is pinned and will not break regardless. On my 500 MDMs I can't use anything but that stock, and can use any wood with that aluminum chassis. The 500 MDM churns up around 90-100 ft lbs of recoil. First stock I had on one busted in 18 rounds, second stock busted in 4 rounds. I have 3 personal 500 MDMs now, one myrtle stock, one claro, and one English walnut. The myrtle and claro have 500-600 rounds now through them, zero issues.

Below find a few pics of some of my stocks. I am very pleased with these guys, call and speak to either Wes or Patrick! Prices are very reasonable for what you receive!

That is an extremely powerful rifle. Go laminated...hell for stout, can look quite good, and you can get one with cast-off if you like.

I'm a voice crying out in the wilderness on this subject. I'm giving some consideration to S'ingTFU.
