Well, since it looks like I'm getting a 550, can anyone recommend some good detachable rings for a CZ? Does Talley make any? Not real sure that I'll put a scope on it, but you never know . .. -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

This is what Talley rings with the Quick Detach levers look like on a CZ 550 Magnum _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Wink what stock is that? I have tentatively been planning a win 70 375 later this year, but obviously now I must re consider. So I am thinking Ruger which is more expensive but have the CZ option. Question though. I see lots of comments about CZ stocks splitting on the big bores. Have most people had this problem and it really needs cross bolts added? Or are the stories just the exceptions. Althought that stock does look nice Wink. any input appreciated. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

I think that's a McMillan stock-- Laminated stocks can be purchased thru Brownell's which are made by Jim Brockman or you can get them from Jim direct--they come crossbolted--- factory stocks on the 416's and above have been known to crack and I don't think it's just the odd one--it's been reported quite a few times-- the stocks for the 375's are less prone is what's been told, but I'd still do it--in fact I put a McMillan on my 375---chris

Hikerbum, there was a lengthy thread on this stock, which is a MacMillan. How's the recoil with that McMillan stock? Better or worse than the factory stock? CZ wants $310 to bed and bolt their stock for me, but at that price, I might just as well put a big piece of glass under it. Just curious . . . -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

BTW Wink, I'm happy to see some good folks from France into Big-Bores. Keep trucking, buddy! Eric Santerre -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

Teat Hound, I'm afraid I can't really compare accurately any difference in recoil between the hogback, or any wooden CZ stock, with the MacMillan because I bought my CZ in .416 Rigby as a barreled action. In other words, I have never shot the CZ .416 in any other configuration than my MacMillan stock. I have shot plenty of wooden stocked CZ's in .375 H&H but recoil is not on the same level. What I can say is that with my setup I have practically zero muzzle jump and the recoil comes straight back. Follow up shots are quite fast given the recoil, although I am faster with follow ups with a .375. I would guess that with the straight combed, butt filled (rather than hollow), Pachmayr Decelerator padded MacMillan, it is probably less felt recoil than the factory wooden stock. I would order the stock with a 14" or more length of pull. Mine has 13 and 1/2 inch length of pull and it is fine with me but a few other people who have shot my rifle get scoped if they aren't real familiar with shooting a big bore. Eric Santerre has a definite French ring to it. Some French ancestry? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Thanks for the reply on the stock. There is a little French in the old genes, I might add. Sancerre in the old country, Santerre at some point over here (Or so I'm told). Nevertheless, you mix Irish, Scottish and French, and you pissed-off good lover, with an attitude (or that is what the old girl friend used to say). Oh well. Thanks for the ear. -eric " . . . a gun is better worn and with bloom off---So is a saddle---People too by God." -EH

I'm using Warne QD's on my CZ550 and I am very happy with them..The reason i went with Warne was that I couldn't get any Talley locally...From various things i have read, i suspect the Talley are higher quality, but the Warnes do work ok... Remember you will get a set of mounts with the rifle..I think they are usually 1" medium highs..I got CZ to swap them out for a set of 1" high and used them on a spare 8x56 S&B for load development and then switched to the Warnes with an 4x32mm Meopta for hunting.. My CZ550 did not come with mounts. I was told that was normal. When did you get yours?

I have the Simba rings for a 550 in either 1" or 30mm. They are more expensive than Talley but if you want the best I can e-mail you some pictures. You can ask some of the guys from Guild show about these rings. Wiebe for one. Darrell Ragar d.ragar@mchsi.com
