The fella [Aggie} that bought Rays 400 at the DSC lives about 80 miles from me. My brother and I went over to see him yseterday to load some ammo and give the double a try.
We shot Ray's recommended load of 72.5 gr of RL 15 and 4 grains of poly and also tried some of my foam wads with the same powder charge. We also shot some 300gr Hawk .o25jkt with poly and the foam wads also. [My 75% rule]
All loads shot good and with the sights at 25 and 50 yards. The foam filler loads and the 300gr loads with foam and poly shot just as good as the loads Ray had recomended.
We ran out of light and loads so did not shoot at 100 yards.
Once again the 75% rule seems to work. Much more shooting will be done and the results will be posted.

There is no rifle like a good double well handled.
The 450/400 is a great caliber, very plesant to shoot. This rifle is 10 numbers from my 450/400. They weigh about 9 1/4 lbs, very slim well balanced and a joy to carry and hunt with.
A person would be hard pressed to find a better double.
Especially if he is to use it for a variety of game from wild pigs to elephant.

I can just see it now, you'll be lusting for it until you get it.

Actually I was looking at pictures of it when Mickey had the rifle for sale. That sly Ray snuck in under me! My brother and I both looked at it durring DSC. I was in Ray's booth when Aggie bought it, which was how we met. Oh well, at least I got to shoot it.
What I really lust for is a 577 Nitro, and I would like to get a 375 H&H double and really give the rimless double a good test. It is always good to have a future project or two.

You guys are makeing me sad, I already miss that little rifle, but then my 470 PH model by Butch Searcy will touch both bullets right and left at 50 yards every time, thats pretty hard to beat and If I need to stick one in a Buffs eye I know I can do it....Its regulated with 108 grs. of IMR-4831 and cranks just a hair under 2200 FPS...and you certainly know when she goes off....

Ray,

If you'd charged folks just to shoot "Sweet Thang", you could have kept it AND bought the Searcy.

It would be money well spent.
All of the "New Made Doubles" should be made in one of the 450/400,s. [I like the 3 1/4"er best. As Taylor said "I love that impossibly long skinny neck].
The 450/400's may very well be the best caliber for the modern man [client] as a DGR.
