Does anyone have some 378 weatherby cylindrical brass they would like to sell? It seems Mast Technologies is slow in manufacturing the next batch.

Thanks
Mike

Hello Jeffe,

I am going to make some 500 A2. I was hoping not to have to fireform 460 brass.

My son bought a family search page on the Lindsay name and it was very interesting. I guess I need a Kilt.

There really isn't much to fireform and I was never able to tell if I lost any velocity or not. Original A-Square ammo was simply .460 Weatherby necked up, loaded and sent out. I still have some original "707 Solids" I am scared to shoot. Those bullets are waaaayyyy long.

Mike,
I HAVE the kilt... LMAO... the family has elected me "Laird Lindsay" which is inaccurate in for 2 major reasons.... Lord of Crawford is the title, and Laird is the same as knight, not Lord... perhaps barronette..

But, it's still funny as hell to me that I have 6 living uncles and great uncles, but *I* am "Lindsay"... my cousin called me, asking if she could name her first Daughter Lindsay... we are each other's fav's, and she wanted to name her after me.

You should be able to just one-pass 460's into the 500, and run with it. I can share with you my wc852 loads, if you like, with cast bullets. I can get 535 FN GC or a BEAUTIFUL 600 RN GC from wayne, and you can as well,
www.customcastbullets.com

Since the 500jeffe and 500a2 are pretty close, you should be able to start with jeffe loads... they'll be lower pressure.

Polish the expander plug real nice and don't forget to anneal before running the case into the die. I lost several cases to crushed neck syndrome. [Smile]

For me the key to necking up without distorting the cases in the larger bore sizes was to keep some graphite on the expander ball. That reduced the friction between the expander ball and the inside of the neck and kept the shoulder from collapsing.

Necking down might be easier if you have the right die sizes, but generally you are exposed to greater risk if you do not keep an eye on the neck wall thickness: given that initial neck wall thickness from starting cartridges doesn't vary much, necking up makes for (usually!) thinner(and therefore safer)-than-specification neck walls, but necking down or shortening can result in thicker-than-specification neck wall thicknesses, which can dangerously raise pressures. The best policy is to check no matter which way you are going. This is especially important if the shoulder is set back, because then the much bigger shoulder of the case is reduced in diameter to the neck diameter, which means the brass that was formerly shoulder can make for really thick neck brass.

Try giving A-Square a call. Now that they are back in production, they should have some 500 A-Square brass, or give you an availability date. (812)283-0577
