Just got off of the phone with Mike McNett the owner of Double Tap ammo, and they have some new big-bore ammo offerings due to be released next month. I don't have all of the details, but have gleened the following:

.416 Remington Magnum (tested in a Mauser with a 24-inch barrel)
- 400 grain Partition at 2,450 fps
- 450 grain Woodleigh softs at 2,375 fps
- 350 grain TSX at 2,675 fps

The prices are in the $70.00 range per box of 20. Solids will also be offered for about 5 bucks more -- don't know the details.

.458 Lott (tested out of a CZ 550 .458 Lott)
- 500 grain Woodleigh softs and solids at 2,350 fps
- 550 grain Woodleigh softs at 2,250 fps
- 350 grain TSX at 2,750 fps

These will purportedly cost in the $70 to $80.00 range.

I have used his .338 and .454 Casull ammo extensively and have chronographed some of it and it has been spot on as far as the claims go.

I have been shooting Mike's hotter handgun loads for several years, and they are great! These I am sure will be good also. Fairly hot too.

That's great news thumb I've been hoping Mike would come out with a .458 offering for some time now. Great ammo at a reasonable price!

Mike's prices are great -- he offers the most bang for the buck -- so to speak! thumb

The 450 and 550 gr loads sound pretty darn hot.

Factory 450 Dakota ammo shoots 550 grains at 2250 fps.

Yes, but it's probably not loaded to potential -- it could go a lot faster as the Dakota has a pretty big case.

2250fps is at the upper end of Woodleigh's recommended impact velocity for the 550gr slugs, and I imagine (although I don't know this as fact Wink) that is why Dakota loads to that velocity. I think any of the .45's based on the Rigby case would be capable of 2400fps+ with hte 550's, but at those speeds you are risking bullet failure.

Count me in! I am a big fan of their 375's and 338's. When these go on sale I will be buying. Good company and outstanding quality in my experience.

Andy,
Those are absolute max loads in the 416 Rem and the Lott, but doable..My handloads duplicated those velocities with my 26" barrel guns..and they did it safely...brass lasted 8 to 10 loadings..

The 450 gr. PP Woodleighs are tougher than the RNin the 416 Rem. btw. The 450 gr. Woodleighs and the 400 gr. Noslers are both fantastic bullets in the 416 Rem on buffalo. I have shot a number of bulls with both bullets in my .416 Rem. The 450 gr. RN are perfect for herd shooting or for those who contend a bullet should expend itself inside the buffalo, as these RN bullets will stop on the off side skin about every time.
