Out of shits and giggles I threw my M70 on the kitchen scale an it weighed 9 lbs 1 oz with no scope and custom Talley bases and 9lbs 15 oz with a Leupold 1.75x6 in Talleys. Not sure where your extra 14 ounces came from on your stock M70? That seems heavy. Was your M70 a recent one?

Look forward to pics of your Whitworth.

A Whitworth mauser customized by David Yale of Colorado is now in the mail. It has quarter rib rear and barrel band front sights, a 3 position safety, and has been restocked. It comes in at 9 lbs 3 oz with a Leupold 1.5-5 mounted. Plus it is more in the classic british style than the Winchester is, which is what I prefer. In the end I got what I wanted and spent far less than if I were to customize the Winchester.

I'm suprised you went with something with a 1/4 rib. I was always under the impression, the only reason a 1/4 rib of solid steal was introduced was to add weight to a firearm
