9.3 or 375?

ACRecurve9.3 or 375?
I'm trying to decide whether to build a 375 H&H or a 9.3x62 to accompany my 404 Jeff & me on a buffalo and kudu hunt. I would likely load them to similar levels...is this potato, potahto?
Good hunting,
Andy

OldsargeI'd be inclined to go with the 9.3 if my primary DGR was the .404. Except for the frontal area, the Jeff at the old British loads wasn't all that far off the .375, though the latter was better for longer ranges. Of course, if you load the Jeff to .416 levels there is a distinct difference but not enough to make me change my vote. If the .375 is the general rifle, I believe that the heavy should be a .450.

Paolo9,5x73Since you own 10,75 forget both 9,3 and 9,5. Hey mate, soon Federal Cartridge is going to load us some of those svelte .423 tipped WJJ cartridges.

AtkinsonI'd go with the .375 and 404...I like having a big rifle in DG country and the .375 is a better killer than the 9.3x62...

WillAndy,
Still wandering in the wilderness, eh?
The 404 Jeffery as originally loaded is about the same duck as a 375 H&H, and the 9.3x62 less than a whole duck.
If it were me, and if I had any sense, I'd goose the 404 up to the 416's horsepower and let it go at that (with a second rifle for the possiblity of the 404 having a mechanical failure, of any variety you want, or as cheap as you can find!).
I am the first to admit that every hunt finds me also wandering in the wlderness, but I think one is better off with "one rifle." With a 404, or some 416, I could hunt just about anything, anywhere. In the long run, knowing a single rifle inside and out will save the day.
If you are happy with the accuracy, recoil, rapid loading, snap shooting, and general feel of your 404, be happy, and quit wandering!

Paolo9,5x73BF, that's what I heard.

WinkIf there is someone on this forum who owns only one rifle please make it known. Then he can tell us his one gun theory. Since I own seven rifles everything I say about one gun hunting is most likely bullshit. Of course I only carry one rifle at a time. I do think that if you are hunting on ranches in South Africa the 9.3 X 62 is probably fine for just about anything you will want to hunt there (and who wants to pay the animal taxes on a buff in RSA?)

500grainsI would go with the 9.3 and .404. The 9.3 is a perfect plains game cartridge, no recoil, and the ammo weighs less than .375.
But if I were hunting in a country where .375 is the DG minimum, then I suppose .375 is it. And a .375 has better resale value.

ACRecurveWill,
I enjoy the wilderness!

The 404 will be my primary rifle. I'm just trying to decide what else to take. Were I to be totally honest (which some say is verboten on this site!

), then I would say the 9.3 interests me because I have not had one. I've had 4 different 375's but have none of them now.
Jeffe,
It's only a womans's prerogative to change your mind!
Thanks for the input guys.
Good hunting,
Andy

I think he means the 10.75x73 (aka .404 Jeffery). I may be wrong.

Since I am considering building a 10.75x68, I hope I am wrong as well.
