The other thread on building a double barrel DG rifle got my wheels turning.....If I bought THE book 'Building Double Rifles On Shotgun Actions by W. Ellis Brown' and found an appropriate action......what is a realistic price range to build one??? This is assuming I and/or a gunsmith buddy could do most of the work.
I'm estimateing about $1000-1400 plus the starter gun. This includes Reamer, dies, brass and bullets. It looks like I could have saved about $200 by useing montana barrels instead of Pac-Nor.

TXPO, Ya know I figure that since you are from East Bernard, you could get a great price on a NIB Searcy in 470 NE for less than 9K. Heck you could even get a NIB Kreighoff in 500/416 for less than that if ya dicker with them a bit. The Gun business economy like it is, there are some bargins out there. Barring that, I'd check a couple of places like Gunsamerica.com and Auctionarm.com.
You'd have that double in your hands a whole lot quicker than if you did the project your own self!
I have built a couple of double with some help from Browning BSS shotgun actions. I had them softened and rehardened....I figure my cost was in the vacinity of $4000 to $5000, not counting labor, and thats encluding very nice Turkish walnut....I had a lot of help and training in both cases from a very apt gun builder of questionable reputation, but beggers can't be choosers...
I never was that satisfied with the Browning action allthough they have stood the test of time with the owners, and were nice guns that shot very well...I think it was mostly mental on my part knowing they were shotgun actions..

Wonderful and interesting project if that's what you are looking for. But the quickest and easiest way to an economy double is a Pedersoli Kodiak IV 45-70,rechambered to 450NE#2. Perry's worked out great; and the few shots I got with mine before surgery, made me happy.
I Just bought that Beretta 10 Gauge action, monoblock and stock off the Classified Forum. It already has the barrels and some of the work done by the first owner.
I'll keep you posted as to developments along the way. As of now, I have $700 into it.
I was not too sure about it until I saw the pictures. The engraving alone knocked my socks off. It was built in the 1960's and is first class. Should be a beauty when it's done.
