Makes sense with using the bullets I will shoot the most.
I was planning on using a Pac-Nor cro-mol barrel.
I am using this action because I got it cheap I want to do almost all the machining myself and doing that the first time on a $500+ action would be a little crazy for me. If I screw this one up Ill only be out $100.
The action is not drilled wrong? I did not want it drilled at all.
Thanks for the info George.

Two questions:
1) what bullets do you intend to use?
2) what barrel have you decided on?

If you are going to the time and expense of a custom rifle, best to toss the receiver that was drilled wrong and get one drilled correctly. You do not need a P14 bolt but it will not hurt.

As for dummies, best to decide what bullets you want to use for hunting and set the rifle up to feed them properly. If you set it up for one bullet and try to hunt with another, feeding could be a problem. This is not the time to economize.

I have the enfield action (p17) in my hands now. It looks good im gonna order the cock on open and the trigger kit today. Ive got some superior brass on the way. I will order a set of dies also this week. Would it be better to find a p14 bolt or will the p17 work as well? I want to replace the bolt handle shortly. My boy made one for me on the lathe.
Any ideas on some bullets that wont break the bank I want to make up a few dummies for the action work. I only wish they hadnt drilled the thing for the redfield scope base.

Tonto,

My number is (406) 579-1000. I've got .474s in 450, 500, 550 and 600 gr versions.

I'm putting the final touches on a 474 - 500gr bullet for the double shooters today. The material is softer but will offer some expansion. I'm sending the first test samples to Ray and some to 500grs as I don't have a 470 finished yet to shoot them out of.

Filled the holes and milled off the ears. Still have a bit of cleaning up to do but so far so good. First picture has the back with a hole and ears with the "new back of the action.

This picture shows the before and after of the action front. I am making a mandrel so I can spin the action and add a bit if a shoulder to the front. This is all just roughed out as Im not sure of what else ill end up cutting.

a shot from the side getting bigger!

John, I would be delighted to test the new .474 bullet. I have two rifles in that caliber and will have to flip a coin to see which one gets to do the testing.
