Any news on dies for the 375 Ruger? Not being a fan of factory ammo or Hornady bullets, I'd like to immediately load my own...any sources of brass???

When I called Hornady, they said dies were not available yet. That was yesterday. Confused

I think they want to sell ammo...this from a company that was built on reloading components. Frowner

I don't know about dies, but the reamers are in. Not being a fan of factory rifles, I have a 375 Ruger on a FN mauser with a kriger barrel by the time the dies are ready.

RIP got dies from Hornady a month ago.....

Brass may be quite a while.....not until the demand for loaded ammo is quenched.

Double check, but I think RIP got his dies from Hornady already. Also, if I'm not mistaken Redding may have dies as well. I would suspect that many will reload from once fired brass from factory ammo while waiting for brass to be made available.

Putting all the debates behind, I'm strongly leaning towards grabbing a blue steel/wood stocked "African" next week. I'm just about ready to give up on the short barrel stainless for just the fact that the 23-inch "African" balances so well and feels so right w/ a slim stock and a sub-8pound package. I think a low budget solution would be to park the wood in favor of a mkII or Hawkeye synthetic on the cheap end. Or a Brown, Mcmillan, etc. on the $$ end.

A few boxes of factory ammo will give a starting point and leave brass for some reloading while waiting for virgin brass. For me, handloads that are huntable accurate in the standard H&H velocity range is all I seek. I'll take some icing on the cake if it comes, but I don't need it.

I will use Ruger rings and a simple 2.5X LEU Ultralight scope. If the bullet that shoots from the barrel thinks it came out of my 375H&H, I'll not let it know it was launched from a 375R. But I'll be reminded w/ pleasure each mile I hike that this light weight baby ain't no overweight H&H.

I think that is a good way to go ....A fixed 4x would be perfactly at home on one also ... I like 4x as I can see early season spikes with 4x but can,t on 2.5x . The Burris 4x Short Mag scope held up on my 458 Lott and its nice and little with 5" eye relief...One thing alot of people don,t realize tho is it that rifle will be right at home with a 3-9x as well .......And weigh about what a pre 64 m 70 , 06 weighs.....But be a real rifle instead of a deer gun .. clap

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Cabela's has a sale on Warne Ruger type QD rings at just under $46.00 right now. I ordered two sets. I'm mounting a 2.5X8 Loopy and a 1.5X5 Loopy. The 2.5X8 zeroed at 250 yds for a 270 gr load and the 1.5X5 at 90 yards for a 300 solid/soft.

So far, I love this Hawkeye African, even with its small faults. I would like to load up with good bullets, however.

Yep, vapodog tipped me off and I had .375 Ruger dies 6 days after a telephone call to Hornady, and that was back in the middle of January 2007.

Call hornady at 800-338-3220.

Ask for item # 546415

Price is $39.06 for the .375 Ruger reloading dies by Hornady.

What the heck does that mean? They don't like you at Hornady? They like me.

Ms. Surely at Hornady is whom you need to order from, or possibly Ms. Sooner, but certainly not Ms. Later.

The handedness (right or left) of the Ms's Surely, Sooner, or Later does not matter at all, does it?

Ms. Surely at Hornady had the dies in my hands 6 days after I called her.

"Sold out" should be the only reason for slight of response here, Surely!

I tried a set but they didn't work for me. They would hang up a bit in a scabbard I use and the levers are on the wrong side.

Ruger ringmounts are very low profile and the locking screws are on the correct side. The old Falcon levers will be available again if one wanted levers, but I prefer the thumb screws as they will not hang up on anything.

The best tool I've put together for my Ruger when afield is such:

- A Mossberg choke wrench for 500 and Ulti-Mag. It is a small flat black piece of hardened steel shaped kinda like the Chevy emblem. The length of it has a hole drilled in one end to hang on a key chain or fob and is used as a handle for leverage. The center protrusions on either side are to fit the two chokes. Either side fits the Ruger thumb screw perfectly and will clear the stock and scope to give plenty of leverage.

To this I added a small drill rod w/ a loop on the end to hang w/ the choke wrench. This is used in the takedown hole for the bolt to remove the firing pin. Very handy and works well for me.

Gary,

I agree that the levers are where I don't particularly like them. I believe they are on the right side because they wouldn't clear the bolt stop on the left without pulling them out and moving them past to fully loosen far enough to remove the scope. I can understand that they don't go with scabbards, either.

But, they repeat well and are strong. I used them on two RSMs for years with excellent results. They, and the Leupolds I mount in them have never failed me. They sure are butt ugly! Eeker

Is the reason Hornady went with the roundnose in the 300 grainer whereas the 270 gets a spirepoint related to action magazine length ?

Or did they just want to match projectile profiles between the soft and solid 300 grainers for folks who will carry both in the field just like in a double rifle ?
