Safari,
I shot my buffalo last Sept with one at about 2,700 fps. It took two shots to put him down My first was a little high in the shoulder. He ran less than 100yd after the first shot. Second shot was frontal shot at about 40yd with the buff slightly quartering toward me. At the shot he turned and fell down. I put two insurance shot into him like the PH told me. I shot hin near dark so I wasn't able to look for bullets or what kind of penetration they had. But enough I guess as he was down and out with two shots. I would use them again on buff.

Hello

Tell me, who makes the TSX bullet?

Right now my 375 shoots great with 270gr Speer BT. I am concerned with the penitrating ability of this bullet on grizzlies. My 375 will shoot the 300gr Nosler at 1 1/2 at 100yrds but it shoots the 270gr Speer much better! I would like to try the TSX's

You should be alright. Grizzlies are usually bigger than an inch and a half. Wink....and all too often, they're closer than 100 yards.

Thanks!

You are right! I am just real anal about getting my rifles to shoot the best they can and hunt with that load. I can miss enough on my own, I don't need the rifle to do it for me!

I have booked an Artic Caribou hunt. The Speer 270gr is enough bullet for caribou. I just want to be covered in case of a bear confrontation.

Last September, I shot two Cape Buffalo with 300 grain Triple Shocks. They performed perfectly. I can't imagine why, on Buffalo, anyone would use anything other than 300 grain bullets.

S's Cat,

I am in complete agreement about your above remark on 300 grain bullets in a .375 H&H, regardless of Maufacturer.

I use 300 grainers for everything in this cartridge anyway and sure wouldn't select anything less than a premium 300 grain bullet on a Buffalo.

Cheers,

Due to bullet construction and barrel length I can only push a 270gr TSX at 2500fps. The 300gr TSX is slower yet. I will not be using my 375 as a primary buffalo gun. I will also be taking a 500NE 3", the 375 is more of a plains game rifle. I was just curious how the bullet performed if the oppurtunity arised.

I really like the 300 Nosler. Great penetration and it will go 2500 easy, even in a short barrel. Good enough BC to be effective out at 250-300 yards, and packs a hell of a wallop there. Its sudden death on elk. The 270 and 300 North Forks also look real good and aren't as long as the Barnes X's, you should reach 2500 with the 300 and well over that with the 270.

I had a client 2 years back shoot a buffalo with "normal" 270gr Barnes-X, out of his .375 H&H. One shot kill. I would normally reccomend the heavier 300gr, but the lighter 270gr worked pertty good.

The only thing that I've shot with my 375 are paper and ground squirrels so I can't say any bullet works on Buffalo but I am constantly amazed at the quality of bullets that we have now. IMHO, we really need to think about all of the old standards on how we base all of these "truisms" on the bullets and technology of 50-100 years ago.

My gun loves the 300 grain TSX but I'm going to be trying the 270 grainer soon, just for the heck of it.
