Any of you used or know someone that has one. I have not heard to much of these and have the chance to buy one.

I have handled but not fired. They look well made, and have a pretty good reputation. AKA the Weatherby Vanguard, sold by Wal-Mart, and a bolt rifle formerly marketed by one of the handgun co.'s (either Colt or S&W? -- forgive me, I can't remember which). If my Mauser habit didn't keep my poor, I would buy a Vanguard. They are about $390 in blue/plastic at Wal-Mart, with the identical Howa 1500 ~$50 less last time I checked. There was a recent recall on the bolt assembly for Vanguards -- search here for Vanguard and you'll probably find it. What's the caliber, condition, and asking price? Todd

I've had two over the years one in 300 win mag that shot very well. A friend now owns and shoots it. I also still have a S&W made by howa in 7X64 that shoots very well too. I'll be selling that one soon as well. Nothing wrong with them I just like my M70's better. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Be aware however that there is a recall on all howa made rifles in a certain series. They're listed in most gun mags.Good luck.

I like them a lot and always have. A well made and well designed action. The barreled actions that were available for a good while were a great bargain. Smith & Wesson, Mossberg and others offered rifles based on this action but sales were poor.
