Which stock is best for 375Rum? I have Remington BDL, and I want to upgrade stock.

Dan, What don't you like about the factory stock? Are you looking for wood, a wood laminate, or a synthetic? Are you interested in a lighter weight stock? George

I was thinking of getting a Medalist styile or a laminated stock. I didn't know who makes and sells a laminated stock for this gun. Any suggestions?

There are often take-off laminated stocks on eBay. Boyd's and Richard's Microfit Stocks make replacements, as does AcraBond-now- Serengeti Stockworks. You must decide what it is about the stock you don't like, then address that issue. George

DAN, I don't know if you'll see this replay, as it is 2 years after your posts. About a year and a half ago, I did the same thing that you did. I had a Remington 700 Clasic in .375 H & H. Being somewhat of a gun nut and tinkerer, I was planning on having my standard .375 rechambered to Ackley Improved (I have two other AI's in .25 & .30), and to re-stock the rifle. Factory stocks are too short for me, and like I said, I like to tinker. I have re-stocked several of my rifles, and re-worked most of my other rifles and shotguns to better fit me. Anyway, I booked a hunt for last summer with Johan Spies for plains game in RSA and Buffalo in Zimbabwe. About that time, I saw a Outdoor Channel show where Art Wheaton of Remington put a good buffalo bull down with one shot with his .375 RUM. That got me thinking, why go through the whole AI thing when Remington had already done it, and more. Besides, the RUM came in a 26", clean barrel (no sights) which I like. So I ordered a new Remington 700 LSS in .375 RUM. The rifle came with a nice laminated grey stock, but it was too short for me. I liked the "different" look of the laminated stock, so I ordered a grey-black/red laminated stock from Richards Microfit. Not traditional, but I like it. My 2004 winter project was to fit and checker my new .375 RUM. I fitted a Limbsaver recoil pad and pillar and glass bedded the action and barrel channel, and floated the barrel. I then put about 80 hours into a multi-section wrap around forend and a multi-section grip checkering. I'm 100% happy with the results, but I'd go broke trying to do checkering for a living. Finally finished with the stock, I started working up loads for my upcoming hunt. I was thinking 270 gr soft points for plains game and 300 gr solids and soft points for buffalo. For the 270 gr softs, I tried two different 270 gr bullets and 3 different 300 grain loads. After my first trip to the range, I wimped out and had to have the barrel fitted with a KDF muzzle brake. Definately made a difference. My load testing resulted in 1" 100 yd groups with the Barnes 300 gr X bullet in front of a maximum charge of H 4831 SC and a CCI 250 primer. I later switched to the Barnes 300 gr TSX bullet with the same powder and primer load. This load put 8 of 8 shots in 1" off the bench at 100 yds with and estimated (Barnes literature) mv of 2800-2850 fps. It also grouped 4 of 4 shots in 2 1/2" at 200 yds. Thats the only load that I took to Africa for this rifle. I felt that the performance of my .375 RUM with the 300 gr Barnes TSX bullets in Africa was excellent. The only bullet that we recovered was the one from my buffalo. It went in behind the near shoulder, took out both lungs and broke the off shoulder. It was the perfect "advertized" Barnes mushroom. All other animals shot with this combination from a Chobe bushbuck at 30 yards to an Nyala at 210 yds resulted in very massive destruction of the chest/lung area and a 1" exit hole. I'm now trying to work a cast bullet load so I can comfortably plink and practice with it until I can take it back to Africa. Its too powerful and damages too much meat for anything that we have here in Montana. NRA Endowment Life Member
