for the SCI and/or ACGG shows, could you report back as to anything of interest big bore-wise to the rest of us?

TIA,
George

I am going to ACGG, would be happy to report back. You looking for things like new safeties, sights and drop boxes etc. or you talking about somebody turning out rifles in a particular caliber? I was told that Jerry has a table this year and I should make sure to take a look at his stuff. Chic will be there and I am anxious to take a closer look at all the wooden eye candy he'll have. I was hoping to meet Bill Soverns but he isn't going to make it this year.

If John Ricks is there I am sure he will have a bunch of big bore stuff and I will make sure to report back on everything that I run into.

Red,

My REAL interest would be in lefthand big-bore rifles, but that is more likely to be found at SCI, not ACGG.

If you're going to ACGG, perhaps you could report on who puts together the most practical AND handsome big-bore rifles (please take plenty of photos!).

Wait, wait, I know how to do that! A Nigerian guy explained it all to me in an e-mail. All I will need is a signed, blank piece of paper, your account number, PIN, Social Security number, mother's maiden name, ...

George,
That dumb SOB emailed me too and promised $250,000 if I cooperated, fully. To date, I've only seen $71,155.62. Never again.

So that's where my $71,155.62 went! That is positively the last time I will ever wire money to anyone in Lagos. What is the world coming to when you can't trust an anonymous Nigerian asking for your bank account number and PIN?

George, my wife and I are leaving for Reno (on the two day plan) tomorrow morning and I'll be happy to report on any big bores (other than the usual salesmen) I may see that meet or exceed the "interesting" threshold.

And, as a special accommodation to you, I will even tell you about any patently uninteresting (to me) southpaw big bore bolt rifles that I happen to stumble upon inadvertently.

I should have known that, as a died in the wool Yankees fan, you would have to be a sinister (or sinistral) fellow.

You're all right. For a BoSox fan, that is.

I'm curious to see if anyone is bringing out any new LH big bore rifles.

Well, stopped on the way home and picked up some new mini-cd's. Looks like I can take as many as 2500 pics at 1280x960! Don't think my battery or finger will last that long though.

I would love to spend a day at SCI, but my wallet could not accomodate the membership fee plus the 100 a day entry. Besides, I am going as much to meet the guild members as anything.

I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Red,

The SCI show is open to the public; you can buy a day-pass for a nominal fee.

No Frickin way! That actually ticks me off! I originally was taking today off work and leaving for Reno early this morning. but their site says that you have to be a member and it is 100 extra per day, so I said screw it and just am taking tomorrow. those bastards.....

I'll see if I can get in at least for a few hours to drool.

Gearge, I saw many fine left handed, big bore bolt rifles at SCI Reno, but nothing remarkably new (to me) on that front. I did meet many excellent, smaller shop, custom gun makers I had never even known about before. All of them are willing to make left handed rifles . . . but for a price, of course.

I had already booked a safari for this year before the show. So, I focused on hardware.

As a result of this trip, I now have a number of new contacts in the custom gun makers' ranks, and enough newly identified "rifle needs" that if I were to act on them would put me in bankruptcy post haste.

And there were also the following fine, well-known makers, all of whom had their wares on mouth-watering display:

Holland & Holland
John Bollinger
Purdey
Westley Richards
Merkel
Jeffery
Hartmann & Weiss
Johann Fanzoj
Rigby
Perugini & Visini
Butch Searcy
William Evans
Krieghoff
Granite Mountain
USRA/Winchester Custom Shop

and on and on . . .

I was like a slobbering kid in the biggest and best candy store on earth--hungry sure, but happy just to be there.
