Hi!

My Winchester M70 Classic Safari Express in .416 Remington has a major magazine spring problem: It's broken. It somehow do work but if I open the hinge both ammo and the remnants of the spring fall out.
What I need is a new spring but that has proven to be a serious problem to get. I have waited for 1 year here in Norway for my local distributor to get one, and 2 weeks ago he told me finally that he could not get it. :-(
What do I do? Help please.....

You need a Wolff spring. I do not know if you can get one there, however.

My .375, same rifle, began spitting the last round out of the magazine after a thousand rounds or so. I replaced it with a Wolff and have had no problems.

A long action Remington 700 spring will work with a few licks with a file to narrow the ends of the spring. Most of my Win Model 70s get the Remmy spring...it's a bit stiffer than the original.

A mauser spring will work also, but it's a bit more filing to get it to fit. It is not only stiffer, but will sometimes allow an extra shell into the mag.

And before someone asks, I have never had the stiffer springs hurt feeding.

David, McCray is 100% correct.

I have a modified Mauser spring that will work for you. I use them in my Winchesters.

If you wish, you can PM me your name/address and I will ship it to you gratis - out of the icy remains of the goodness of my heart.

No joke. Just let me know where to send it and I will do so.

See, David, I told you that another, altered spring would be the easiest way! Wink

Hi!

Big thank you for mrlexma.
Got the spring today from him. It fitted perfectly and it was supertight. Perfect functioning. Can load 3 in mag and one in chamber now. That was not possible before with the old spring.

I love this forum.
Big male hetro hug mrlexma. Big Grin (not that other creepy one)
