Bren7X64Well, I remember someone writing to G&A in the 80's I suppose it was.
He reckoned Elmer Keith was too extreme and as far as I can remember the letter went something like this:
"Elmer Keith's favourite varmint calibre is a .50 BMG necked up to .60. This would be stocked in a walnut plank with a Mason's emblem on one side and an outhouse on the other, with a slogan "Stamp out small calibres" across the back".
My dad and I laughed at this for many years ...
But, you aren't there yet ...

416TanzanMy son and I agree that the 375 is a good varmint round.
Here is a picture of my son as a happy hunter.
He snuck up and dropped the notorious Guinea Fowl with a good all-purpose meat round, the 416 Rigby. Probably about 50-60 yards, 350gnTSX
A person needs to use enough gun!
Notice leather hat still wrapped around the rifle. We've always enjoyed using a tree instead of sticks as long as trees are available. Wrapping a rifle in a hat keeps the sight-in true and protects one's hand from a scrape.
the eating was good. No lead pellets and all the breast meat as long as the bullet is kept in the top front half of the body sillouette, which he did.
PS: this is meant to share the joy, not enflame. We both know that the 375 is adequate for guinea fowl, too!

JCS271I think the .375 makes a fine varmint round. This was taken with my Alaskan in .375 Ruger. It worked great!

A Blaser R 93 in 375 H&H Magnum was my varmint gun for one South Africa trip.
JCS271, a fantastic wolfe by the way. I would LOVE to have a trophy like that.
