Should have it by Friday and give it to my dad on Saturday. An AHR custom-built 585AHR - record time and simply stunning. The floorplate engraved with "Custom built for my dad Anthony Y" with some scroll work. He has no idea and will be, I think, speechless. If you had a dad like mine - a man who worked and still works on the docks and busted his ass all his life for the love of his family; who taught me the most important lessons in life: "treat everyone as if they are your family, always do your best, always say your sorry, never miss the chance to say I love you" - well, this is small beans from a man who hopes some day to be half the man his dad is. Here are a few shots of the masterpiece put together by Ed Plummer and Wayne Jacobson and their crew at AHR: Thanks Bitterroot and Ed. My dad and I, with Ray's help will be heading off to Africa in '09 to make use of your handiwork. My dad will get his 585 AHR tomorrow. My parents are coming over for meatballs and macaroni (it's Sunday and we are of Italian background so that's a given). VERY IMPRESSIVE RIFLE! You are a good man and your deserving Dad will be thrilled, of that I am sure. On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. Congratulations on a noble tribute to your father. The 585-AHR is truly a fine-looking firearm! Your gesture shows respect, gratitude, and affection. Certainly, your father has passed along some vital life-lessons that can continue into the generations. A wise man has said: Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. ---> Shoot 'em [bullets, arrows, offspring] straight, Paul [aka CCMDoc] !

CCM, A gracious and heartfelt gesture. I gave my father a kodiak blackpowder double my freshman year of college, built him a case and everything... He doesn't get to use it much, but I know what it meant to him. My father doesn't like big bores, though: if I gave that to him it would be like when Homer Simpson gave Marge a bowling ball for a present! My dad would make me shoot that 585 every day just for a laugh... seriously, though, gorgeous rifle. Dammit, I'll have ED build me another 600 someday.... I'll get it for my future ex-wife...

I gave my Dad a .50AE handguns years ago and he still brags about it being given to him by his son. There is something about a father receiving a good firearm from a son that just sticks in the heart. Your Dad will love it forever!

Parents came over and I brought my dad to my reloading bench where his rifle lay in an MTM cleaning cradle. I said "Like what I had done to the bolt handle?" He looked at it closely and I said "Turn it over." He did and I pointed to the engraving. He read it out loud, his eyes welled up and said "I don't know what to say but that's the best gift I have ever gotten" and hugged me. He threw it to his shoulder a few times (perfect fit) said he had to work out a little more then said "I have never seen such beautiful woodwork and the wood is just gorgeous. The engraving is perfect". He choked up a bit, shook his head, admired it a bit more then looked at the shells and just shook his head some more. He said "Wait til I tell the guys on the pier. They are going to go crazy when I tell them about what my son gave me." Perfect, just perfect. Thank you Ed and Wayne (Bitterroot). Very nice rifle! It sounds like you and your dad have a great relationship. I'm sure he is as grateful of a dad as you are a son and it was a very nice show of love and respect on your part to recognize his lifetime of hard work with a top notch rifle like that. Everyone should have such a relationship with their father and every father should strive to raise their kids right.....like yours obviously did!!! VERY NICE INDEED!!!
