I do not think these trolls are harmless.

Has anyone else had a very recent increase in SPAM attacks?

It seems to me whenever the trolls are active and also if you attack them SPAM increases and our email addresses are put under attack. As of today I have begun to receive returned emails sent out using fake @nitroexpress.com addresses. And also a large number of emails to real @nitroexpress.com email addresses. The last time this happened the highest days total was something like 1600 emails in a single day, and several hundred a day for a month or so.

I strongly believe these scum inhabiting the hunting and shooting forums are connected with this.

PS I do have strong anti-spam and anti-virus protection

Nitro,

I rarely receive any emails from what is called spam. I get a few on guns which I put down to my email being on these sites but they are all legitimate. Others which I get from places like Leupold, Sierra etc have come because I have emailed them in the past.

At different times in the past other people have posted similar to yourself but the fact that only some people on the forums have such things happen makes me think the problem is being generated from places other than these gun sites.

But I also have seen a correlation with names and words associated with hunting and shooting forums eg in the false name used in the email address or in the subject.

Often names of users on AR or words associated with hunting and hsooting.

Which makes me suspicious there are users here which generate them OR at least these sites are targeted by greenies etc for damage.

All of the current emails contain attachments etc. I haven't opened any as I need to scan them well using a more up to date PC and PC based virus systems.

I really can't believe you aren't receiving a lot of spam. Alot of people on the net connected with hunting and shooting have complained and I know how many they have received when discussing it. The last time had numerous people on AR complaining.

It is strange you are exempt from receiving much spam? Very confused

PS Why do you think these spam attacks also occur just when the trolls are always attacked and put under a lot of pressure.

Nitro,

I have no idea why I do not get Spam. I also receive very little in the way of stuff that has a virus. It might be because I do not do any business over the internet. I have never bought anything over the internet. The only "enquiry" type emails I have done over the internet have been to Hornady, Sierra, Remington, Huntingtons and Weatherby. The ones I have with Remington and Weatherby have also been following phone conversations.

Just thinking about it a bit more I probably get more spam than I think but I delete anything I am not familiar with but even so I get very little. In my case 99.99% of my emails, sending and receiving, is usually emailing files and often I am on the phone with the person while we are emailing. Others will be some forum members such as John S. I don't think I would get more than 3 or 4 emails a week from a source who I do not know.

PS Why do you think these spam attacks also occur just when the trolls are always attacked and put under a lot of pressure.

I don't know. It could be for the reasons you are suggesting.

You might also be getting a lot because you run the your Big Bore site.

It might also be to do with what these people search on.

But I am awell aware that a lot of people have problems with unwanted emails.

NitroX- I don't think it's confusing at all why Mike375/470 Nitro seems immune. By the way, I read your post but have him on " IGNORE"! He's immune because he's involved with sending it. As for the IP address, I've been told by IT experts that if you use a proxy computer located in the US from an ex US site that it's only that IP address that will be seen by the board moderators. That would explain what I've long believed to be true and they can have multiple personalities if they work for companies with more than one internet server. of course another explanation which frankly rings true is that the Trolls are coordinated through an organization like HCI or PETA like 470 Nitro alluded.-Rob

Found a way to fix the problem so the bogus emails being returned are all deleted automatically. Even if I can't stop them being sent, I can stop them being a nuisance to me.

And one more to the top to help you....and this one has the SPAM/Troll warning. I guess NitroX figured that if you were going to turn Big Bores into the AR troll centre then such a warning was required.
