Hi there, Could someone run the QuickLoad numbers for the 570 gr Barnes TSX and Benchmark powder in the .500 A2? The TSX is so long that it eats up the available powder supply. Jeffeosso suggested that move to a faster powder (H335). The likely powder candidates include H335, Benchmark and N133. I've found a load online (reloaders nest) for N133 (600 Woodleigh @2500 fps over 105.0 N133), but it's a single data point from an unknown source, and I'd like a little more information before heading in that direction. I've heard that Benchmark is very compact for its weight, which is a real plus in this application; I also happen to have a pound of the stuff and none of H335 or N133, so I'd like to try that first, barring any information to the contrary. Why don't you try Reloader 15? It works great with the 570 grain Barnes bullets in my rifle. With a funnel and six inch drop tube, it's easy to get as much as you need into the case to get 2,500+ fps - generally that's 110-112.5 grains, in my rifle. That load is compressed with the Barnes bullets, but not too much. RL-15 works so well in my .500 A-Square that I don't bother with anything else. I have a 510 Wells--basically same and I use nothing but RL 15 in it. I don't need to run as hot as mrlexma, but at or around 105-106 grs of RL 15 gives me 2300 and change with the 570 Solids. For me RL 15 is the powder of choice. Michael http://www.b-mriflesandcartridges.com/default.html The New Word is "Non-Conventional", add "Conventional" to the Endangered Species List! In my testing, the Barnes solids run about 75 fps faster than the TSX, in my rifle. My results with Varget and H4895 have been disappointing, with velocity topping out at 2300 fps, when using reasonable measures to shovel powder into the case. I didn't have any problems fitting 110.0 gr of RL 15 into my cases under a Barnes banded solid for 2320 fps, but the TSX seems to consume more space. It's possible that Varget and H4895 take up more volume on a per weight basis than RL15. With the TSX, I was only able to use 115.0 of Varget and 113.0 of H4895 for velocities of just over 2300 fps. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence. | |||

The only loads I have chronographed recently were 647 grain milsurps, 100 grains IMR4350 for 2230 average with little deviation. I was surprised to get that much speed with that load. Also 535 casts with 50 grains 5744 for around 1650, high standard deviation with variable accuracy. I haven't actually chronograped my 570 Woodleighs, also loaded with 100 grains IMR4350, but I assume they are running faster than the 647s. I don't care to load them any hotter.
