There is a thread on the Gunsmithing forum regarding caliber stamping on barrels. I posted these photos of a job I did on my 505. I thought some of you guys might be interested.

Very tidy indeed!

I have used a Gibbs original in this chambering, which used to be owned by a 'local' friend, now owned by another friend interstate. Fortunately he brings it up to the Northern Territory for a buff-hunt occasionally. Its a marvellous cartridge!

Just reread my post. If you didn't know any better you would assume, from what I wrote, that that this was a stamp job. It's not folks. It's an engraved lettering job. Sorry about that.

Jeffe...Lettering runs $4.50 a letter for this size. Turn around time on lettering generally runs about a week, at most.

Sir
Do you do engraving on stainless? Can you get a weapon reblued after you finish or must one send it out himself afterwards?
If I am successfull on my DG hunt in september I would like to have a rifle(which ever one I am successfull with) done up a little. Thanks
Dean

Beautiful work, Scrollcutter.
I hail from the same Great State on the Upper Left Coast.
Depending on which .375 H&H I end up with, I'd like to have something done by you when the time comes.
If we're close enough in distance, hand delivery beats UPS charges. I'm in the Emerald City.

mstarling,

I checked out that link and saw some wonderful work. I'll go back later to see the other links within.
Thanks.

Scrollcutter,
That's excellent work - some of the cleanest I've seen.
Pity you don't live in Australia

I just looked at my original 505 Gibbs and it's tidier than the
505 on my receiver. If I get a chance I'll get someone to post a photo
of the original.

MARAKAI - glad to see you're still standing (even if you are in the process
of taking 3 steps backwards) !!!

I hope that you post some photos of the entire rifle.

I know, I for one, would like to see some pics of an original gun.

Ray:

Can't take credit for the barrel profile.

But, thanks for the comment on the lettering.

Scrollcutter,
I'll email some pictures to someone on the forum and get them to post them
later next week. I'll have to take a couple of extra photos myself of the gun
and lettering.
