namibiahunter.470 Capstick barrel
I'm drawing up my requirements for my .470 Capstick. Before I send the M1917 action for barreling, any advice on what length and contour? I'm thinking a No.3 at 22 or 21 inches.

ShortandFatIt really does depend on the weight of everythin else you plan to put on the rifle
but
A #3 profile at 22 or 21 inches for a 470 Capstick
mmmmmmmmmmm
IMO no easy way to say this
Your mad

good luck with that but seriously I recon a #5 minimum at that length

chuck375I'm planning on having my 375 H&H converted to 470 Capstick next winter. I'm thinking a Krieger barrel and they recommend a #6 countour. I'm planning to go with a 24" barrel.

Chuck

I used that exact barrel on a M70 a few years ago. The rifle shoots great, but that threw the balance off and made the rifle a bit too barrel heavy for my tastes. So I put a 13oz mercury recoil reduce in the butt stock. That balanced it out pretty well and the extra weight also helps with the recoil.

chuck375Thanks David, that's my plan exactly! Nice to know someone's already done it and is happy with it.

namibiahunterHow about a No.5 at 22 inches with mercury tubes and Decelerator? Still too light?

chuck375Unfortunately this one is sold (I checked at Cabela's in Boise), but this barrel doesn't even look like a 5 contour (something lighter I think) so I'm guessing it would be fine.
