Just curious, what would be the largest big bore rifle you would put into a mannlicher style stock? I have always like the looks of them and have wandered why I have never seen one on a heavy rifle.
Thanks.

Sako made some Mannlichers in 375 H&H about 15 - 20 years ago. Guys who have them will not sell them.

well,
I have a Siamese Mauser (rimmed cases) with a 20" 50-110 Winchester barrel on it mannlicher stocked. 500gr bullet at 1850fps...does that count? Great brush rifle for Elk and bear here in Idaho.
Anything you want with a short (18-21"bbl) will work.

I have been pondering one for my 458 AR. Trouble is most folks might be scared to trim the forearm down enough on a fat 45 or 50 caliber barrel to keep the trim looks of the style. I think it can be done and still have sufficient strength but I would prefer to get a custom contour down to the proportions of the older English double rifle barrels.

So if Sako and MS once made big bores in mannlicher style stock and not presently, I wander if it was due to lack of sales or was it that they found there might be some type of problem, possibly the recoil causing the end of the stock to split.
As tiggertate pointed out, it might have been the fact that the end of the stock would be to thick to keep the graceful lines of the mannlicher.
My present and only big bore is a 376 Steyr. I'm thinking that round might make a dandy rifle in a mannlicher.

They probably still make them for the European market. It is very unusual for every model made in Europe to be offered here in the states. American gun buying tastes are pretty ridgid overall.

I have been looking for a LH mannlicher for years and never seem to find one that is not priced out of reason. I gave up and decided to have Serengetti build me one! The Sako mannlicher was a two piece stock and I wish they still offered them in LH.

IMO, it is not the CALIBER that is limited by use of the Mannlicher stock, but the barrel length. For examples of bigbore fullstock rifles, look at some of the flintlock Jaegers. Many of these were as large as .80 cal. or bigger, and the great majority had "Mannlicher" stocks!

If you want a factory rifle with a Mannlicher style stock I think the biggest cal. offered lately is 9.3x62.

I have a very slim mannlicher stocked 9.3x62 ordered from gunsmith Lon Paul that should be here by spring bear season. If it can be done on a 9.3 then there is no reason not to on a .375. Jack Lott had one built by Holland and Holland.

Sako offered them up to .375 H&H. The mannlicher series was discontinued after the L691 series, and were not offered in the 75 series. They were dimensionally the same as their regular stocks, with dual recoil bolts. No problems with them at all.

The largest full stock Mannlicher-Schoenauer was the 9.3x62mm. The .458 Win Mag was only offered as a half stock rifle.

The largest full stock Mauser was the Model S in 10.75x68, on special order.

Most current European companies like Sauer, Zoli and Heym still offer their Stutzen (full stock) models in all cartridges up to 9.3x62.

Beautiful BRNO ZKK 602.

Looks like those add-on scope bases would interfere with the iron sight use unless the bases are themselves QD???

I do not understand negating the integral bases of a BRNO. bewildered

If youre gonna go Manlicher, you gonna go with cherrywood? oh wait, cherry is for frontstuffers. You know, that might not be a bad idea, a 470AR, 24" barrel, cherrywood stock. But, would it look gay with a F990 on the butt. Would you put a barrel band hooded front sight on it? What about the front sling swivel? where to put it so no smacked fingers from recoil?

Alf that is a gorgeous mannlicher, I am curious what is the barrel lenght?
Only thing that would make it nicer, would be if it was left handed. Smiler
