Hi Mike,
That means you project rifle is finished. Take your 460 Weatherby brass load it with 17 grains of Bullseye pistol powder along with a large rifle primer, put some cotton batton on top to keep the powder against the primer ( not too much maybe a sixth of a cotton ball or so)fill the rest of the case up with Red River cereal (porridge) to just shy of the base of the neck. Get a bar of parowax and with a bernzomatic torch heat up the wax bar and let it drip into the top of the case until it's filled to the top. Take them out point them staight up in the air and fire them. Perfectly formed cases. It may sound long but the whole procedure only takes 45 minutes to do 50 cases. Just line them up and keep the wax flowing. Clean off the outside of the brass and your done.
Have fun and stay away from A-Square brass.
Take care,
Dave

Hi Ed
There are numerous members that have had problems with their brass. It is too soft and locks up your action at about 200 fps less than a safe book load. My 500 A-square locked up at 2200 fps with a 600 grain bullet. The whole batch was bad so if it was part of a run that they used to make their loaded ammo you could imagine the poor guy on Safari that pulled the trigger and locked up tight. Returning it and having it replaced was a long drawn out affair also.
Take care,
Dave

The A2 brass I have is too soft and gives sticky extraction with mild loads.

Has anyone here sectioned a 500 ASq, Would like to
see how thick base is. The 450 NE Bell brass from
the old factory,I built my 458 HE from was soft.
The base was thicker than others,And if I fired it a few times with lighter loads it would harden to be able to handle heavy loads. In the manufacturing usually they are soft because they are not pounded enough times in the die, to harden them. And if they are soft and thin headed, they are a problem.
Reason I am checking is those wanting to build 550 Mag,who
I am helping out, need to know this info.Whether
to form case from 500 ASq or anneal and expand
460 Weatherby.Which is what I did for RNS to have a sample 550 Express case. Ed.

Hi Ed.
I think Mast Technologies make a 378 Weatherby basic brass in the cylindrical form without a headstamp. You can link to them through my site.
Take care,
Dave

Thanks Dave- That 378 cylindrical brass would probably be the exact size for 550 express.
And I know Mast pounds them enough now to take
heavy loads.Ed.

Mike,
The 378 cylindrical brass may be the way for you to go also. You could just pass it once through your 500 A-Square die and your done. You can also order it with a blank headstamp.

Ed
Mast used to do some custom headstamping with a minimum order. I ordered my bunter for headstamping the 470 Mbogo cases through Jay Bell at Mast. He know takes care of their military orders but I'm sure you could make a contact that could supply you any info you might require.
Take care
Dave

K-Mule--RNS and I are working on it.We are trying
to get a few others in with us to cover cost of
tooling for boring and rifling 55 cal.No one we
can find has tooling on hand.If we have a
dozen, Wells will do tooling for the dozen jobs
free and just charge for barrels.I will buy
the barrel reamer.I only need my 50 cal barrel rebored for my long 550HE.I am doing away with
510 HE.It is on a P-14 Enfield. I have talked to
John at Bridger Bullets. He will make whatever is
needed when he gets going.I made a sample case,
by annealing and expanding a 460 case, and sent to RNS.Pics are on other thread.Mingo is interested also.Would you be? Anyone interested
contact RNS. Ed.
