There is an article at the link below explaining that RN bullets fail on buffalo because they tend to tumble. http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Round-Nose-fail.html

I have never had that problem, but I have only used Woodleigh and Hornady (old style) RN bullets in the jacketed type, and I don't push them hard as a rule...Monolithics are the rage today, and with good reason, and the flat point is just whip cream on the cake... I have read this stuff from time to time and I suppose it happens with inferior bullets most of the time and on ocassion with any premium bullet...I know of rare instances where monolithic have snapped in half for that matter..Maybe anything made by man can fail! ![]() Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Does anyone think that maybe the author employed just a wee little bit of hyperbole in that article? ![]() If they could only speak, I'm sure the ghosts of a hundred thousand elephants would say so. ![]() Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

A little exageration can go a long way. ANY solid can fail depending on what and at what angle it hits. The worst is probably the shoulder bone of a large bull ele especially when hit at an angle. The question in my mind is "Which fails more often?" 465H&H

The author is misinterpreting some discussions and likes to initiate some panic. He never hunted ele or buff. A RN solid is normally stable upto 80 cm (38") and always good for buffalo and most ele shots. The advantages of FN and other new solids are more or less for difficult situations and more reliability.

Funny reading! Like reading 30 years old Guns&Ammo magazines. Today, we know that it is the construction of the bullet, not the shape, that makes it tumble and disform.Though bullets does not fail. Bent Fossdal Reiso 5685 Uggdal Norway
