Looking for load information for the Marlin 1895 in .45-70. Specifically looking for bullet, powder, over all length, etc. I am looking for both plinking/practice and hunting loads. Thanks!

My 45-70 Marlin Guide Gun likes those Remington 405 grain FP bullets with 52 grains of H322. The COL for this load should be 2.540 in. This is just one of my plinking loads. Please keep in mind that this load is NOT SAFE for those Trapdoor rifles. Good luck. Ming

I know alot of people will dissagree probally, but I use Varget with 300, 350 and 405's with pretty accurate results. It is not the fastest, but it moves good and is alot lighter on the shoulder to get there. I load for hunting 60g compressed in Win brass, CCI primer, and H350GFP. I don't have a chrony, but it should be around 1850fps 25-2600fpe. More than enough for deer or elk. Good shooting. FYI the Hodgen manual has great load info for 45-70.
