Will start to work up a load for 400 grain banded solids and 400 grain tsx next week. Has anybody used these bullets and reloader 15 and if so how did it turn out?

I'm interested in load data for the .416 with the banded solids, so be sure to post your findings. Why Reloder 15 - I've never used it for large-bores? Seems that's on the fast side for a cartridge of this size, but maybe you have had some good experiences with it.

I used reloader 15 on my last 416 with good results . I also use it in my 375. It in listed in most reloading manuals so I decided to give a try. Not really interested in lots of velocity just consistent accurate loads for softs and solids for use on buffalo and elephant this summer. Never loaded triple shock or banded solids before.
Reloader 15 is a great powder for the 375 and the 416. I would start out with what the reloading books tell you. Personally I use 75grains of R-15 with 400 grain bullets @ 2330 fps. Each lot of R-15 powder can be different so start low and work up.

Interesting, as some manuals list maximum at 81 or 82 grains. 10% below would mean starting out at 74 grains which should be safe enough as I will be using a chronograph. Dont think I will be looking for a velocity over 2400.
My original Winchester barrel took 81 grains to hit 2400 fps with most any 400 grain bullet. The new barrel takes only 78 grains and puts three Barnes solids into less than an inch.
Reloader 15 is a great powder for the 416 Rem.

I took my rifle to the smith today to make a cap for the screw off muzzle brake. When I get it back I will start load development. The cases are resized and primed just waiting for powder.
