I've just started handloading for my new CZ 550 in .375 H&H. I would appreciate knowing what powder/bullet/primer combinations have produced small groups for you in that caliber.

My gun is a BRNO ZKK 602. My favorite recipe is as follows: Winchester cases trimmed to 7.2 centimeters, Federal 215 primers, 82.0 grains of I.M.R. 4350 and Speer 270 grains softpoints. O.A.L. 9.10 centimeters.
Good luck and sorry for the metrics

I still dote on IMR-4064, its been so bloody accurate in all my 375s....I also like RL-15, it has worked well and get a bit more velocity, but I never have needed extra velocity in a 375 to kill anything...Its been doing yomans work for several centuries at 2500 FPS....

I'm with Ray on the RL15 powder. IMR 4064 works as well.

The bullets I've liked are the Hornady 270 grain, the Swift A-Frame 300 grain and the 260 Grain Nosler Partician.

Look at the North Forks, woodleighs, trophy bonded and others as well. You just might find something better.

One little thing.....the boat tails are for looks.....not for performance.....If looks is what you want then so be it.....but I'd stick with flat base bullets.

I sure liked the results of loading 70 grains of RL15 under an accubond 260 gr 375. We used it exclusively in Namibia. Although a boattail, it's bonded and held together very well. We recovered 3 bullets, all good expansion and weight %age, and it was superbly accurate in my Whitworth. I think it's a great plains game combination. By the way, I was able to find these bullets also as seconds from the Nosler pro shop, at a great price. Bob

BigBrass,

You won't find this load in any current manuals but Bob Hagel's loads actually exceeded this. In several 375 H&H rifles 80-81 gr. of IMR 4350, W-W cases, Fed 215 primers and the 300gr. SAF have worked very well. In my 23" barrel this load gives 2540fps with good accuracy. In a couple of other rifles it gave nearly 2600fps. What I really like about this load is there is no need for a crimp since the load is compressed even if dribbled into the case with a drop tube. No bullets being pounded into the case with this one. 4895, R-15, 4064 all need a serious crimp. This load has worked in all circumstances for me from -30 F to 95 F.

Regards,

Mark

Like you, I have a CZ 550 in 375 H&H. Before I went to Tanzania this year (my first trip to Africa) only had time to develop one load which proved to be exceptionally accurate as well as providing very good terminal performance on the Zebra and Heartebeast shot.

The load consisted of Norma Brass, H4895, 270 grain Barnes TSX, Federal Match Grade 215 primers. The charge was on grain below the max listed in the Barnes manual for the standard style "X". This load chornographed a nominal 2720 fps in my rifle and produced better than 1/2 moa at 100 yds. I did not see the need to try anything else..however, I may attempt to work up a 300 grain load...Good luck, jjs

I've had great luck with 76gr of H-414, WW brass, Fed 215 priers and 300gr Swifts, Barnes X and Hornady softs and solids. I'm getting under 3/8" for a 3 shot group out of my Model 70 as the picture shows. jorge

Thanks for your help, guys.

MarkYoung: That load with IMR 4350 looks interesting. IMR's web site gives this supposedly max load for a 270-grain "Win ST" bullet with IMR 4350, Win cases and Win Large Rifle Mag primers:

IMR 4350 78.0 Grains (Compressed) 2620 fps 52,700 CUP

The 81 grain load looks as if it might be getting up there pretty high, in terms of pressures. (On the other hand, the data on stevespages.com shows 83 grains as max with a 270-grain bullet!)

Several loads work well in my mod 70. Re 15 and a 270 gr SAF at about 75 -76(warm load!!!!) That has given me my best groups. It averages about an inch just over or just under depending on the operators day. Best group was .405 one hole group at 100. 78 gr of IMR 4350 same bullet is a good hunting load. Win brass and fed 215 GM. Good hunting.

Wink...Hi..
I use "vihta" Vihtavuori powders, used 30 yrs allready and think they are really great powders

The hunting load in my 375HH is as follows.

Shell W.W. Primer Federal 215 Bullet Nos-part 300gr
Powder Vihtavuori N-160 5.3grams O.A.L 89.9mm , crimped,full sized.

The velosity not measured yet..I raised the load in 0.05grams steps from 5.0 upto 5.30g and followed the pressure signs and accurasy, both ok but its a real kick
My rifle is CZ 550
On the range in normal practising I use N-160 5.0gram, Fed 215,Hornadys 270gr 3710,no crimping and only neck sizing.
