Hey Jeffe, I thought the 376 was the ultimate. Am I going to have to build a 458 when I get the 376 finished?

jeffe Just put one of those slip on recoil pads [leather or rubber] and it should fit you perfectly. Sounds like a good closer cover rifle for ANYTHING after all it is a 458.

So you can use a BRNO .458 barel in a mauser action ?? I have a take-off .375 H&H barrel here from my .585 project, what actions would this be compatible with Jeffo ??

PC, I got kinda lucky, as I used a small ring mauser, which has a major of .980.... so i turned off the cz threads and did the mauser threads I don't think you could get a good salvage off of it for a largeringe... 1.1, if i recall... that would leave a very very short shoulder on the barrel... but, hey, if your gunny say's it's okay.. I was thinking a 416 barrel would turn down nice for a 416 taylor. 375 taylor? jeffe [ 08-21-2003, 05:04: Message edited by: jeffeosso ]

Bob, i think the 458 on a mexican is a stunt.. if i ever sell it, i'll rechamber to 450 marlin... so thay any load can be used. I am still stuck with 3.15", so i have to be careful, it wont feed 500 grainers, but it loves 385 and 400s jeffe

I just built a 458 on an old 38 turk and love it. I opened up the action just a smidge and added a touch of length to the magazine. O.K., Joe Sherrod, local smith did the metal work. Does 500's great but will still do shorter fine. And pigs tumble like dominoes to a 350. Leads are next. Never used em before. Any advice?

TXPO, no pig yet... this one is going in september, if I can get the guys to make a run to SA. Still trying to get the sights lined out... if i am low and left (not much of either) I can whack 3 in about 2-3 inches at fiddie.... I have new inserts coming from CZ . For what it's worth, a CZ front sight inserts are #2 is about 1.89 #7 is about .226 #14 is about .281 I've got a 13 and 14 on the way... jeffe

So Jeffo, I could shorten the barrel and rechamber for a .375 Taylor in a mauser action or whatever action I could scrounge up ?? Your project sounds good.

jeffe I think your [non 500grain bulleted] 458 makes perfect sense. Several years ago in Rifle or Handloader Magazine there was an article where a fella built a 458 specifically for 350/400grain bullets. I know from using a 45/70 and 350gr HornadyRN's in my 450 No2 that the 458 bore is a perfect hunting rifle for any game in NA from deer to the great bears as long as the distance is less than 200 yards.

I use a 45-70 Stainless Ruger #1 and 350 grainers at 1,750 +/-. ( I suffer from Lefthanded disease). But will attest to the ability of a 458 caliber 350 grain bullet to paste a pig. I have a Aimpoint hot dot on mine.
