Proper magazine box dimensions? Login/Join

I would greatly appreciate it if those of you with rifles in these calibers could give me the magazine box dimensions. I am looking specifically for these dimensions:

Overall length
Width at front of box
Width at rear of box
Depth at front of box
Depth at rear of box

Cartridges of interest, to me, are:
585 Nyati
505 Gibbs
500 Jeffery
416 Rigby

Thanks,
Axel

You didn't say what action you are using. A Enfield guard is very differnt than a Magnum Mauser guard.

Drop me a SASE, I can supply dims for the Gibbs, Rigby, Jeffery, for Enfield, Magnum Mauser, M98 for the 500. I am the only one making some of the guards.

You need to think what does it take to convert 11 pounds of steel in a solid block, to a finished guard.

Jim,
Your article proved to be invaluable to me in the creation of my 500 jeffe on an enfield.

I know there are guys here with dimensions of their fully functional magazines. Please share these dimensions with me.

Thanks,

Axel, folks maybe be just taking time to measure their magazines out and not ignoring you. I can't help much, we just mated a 98 Mauser trigger guard with a BAR mag for our .500 Jeffery project gun. Since it is build on a VZ24 we are only using 535 grain bullets and lighter so length hasn't been a big issue. If you want I can get over to Craig's and measure the mag but I think you are looking for a more visually pleasing result then ours. You can cut the BAR mag to desired length so it doesn't stick down as far but it is still fairly far forward of the trigger guard and pretty hideous.

Sharp54, that is an interesting magazine idea. I believe it may have some merit. How well does the BAR magazine mate up to the receiver?

Thanks,
Axel

It could just be that you've pulled everyones legs so many times in the past, that nobody cares what your question is. I'm sure a lot of the guys just won't take the time to "help" you anymore.

The boy who cried big bore, as it were.

Of course you're serious this time, right?

Sharp54, what kind of modifications were required to get the BAR magazine to feed 500 Jeffery cartridges? This idea really intrigues me.

Whatever, George! I am certainly not the only one here that your accussations apply to, am I!

Axel,
I was a little misleading with the info, let me clarify. Since Craig got the BAR mag in he has only fired Cast bullets from the Jeffery, I will try to load up some 535's and some 450 Barnes this weekend to see if they will fit but I don't think they will, the BAR mag is about .1 under the OAL of the standard 500 Jeffery (535) bullets. We had fired the 535's single shot before playing with the BAR mag. The BAR mag is simply welded in the middle of chopped up mauser bottom metal. A custom aluminium follower was built to allow feeding. I will take pics tomorrow of my 8X57 with a similar set up and post them tomorrow night. Hope this helps. You may be best off building a custom single stack magazine well for the best reliabilty. That is probably what we are going to do with the TGR-S I am going to rebarrel in something silly.
