McMillan stock for Ruger RSM? Login/Join

Has anyone used a McMillan stock on a Ruger RSM? Although McMillan doesn't list one for the RSM on the website, when I called today, the lady I talked to thought they used to make one, or at the very least they still could. If I were to have them make me one, are there any precautions that I would need to take becuase of the recoil plate contraption Ruger uses? The stock would either be for a .416 Rigby or .460 Wby. (re-chambered from .458 Lott).

I was just playing around w/ one of my RSMs looking at the recoil plate.

Bare rifle weighs - 10lb 2oz.
Barreled action - 7lb 4oz
Stock w/ plate - 2lb 14oz
Recoil plate - 5oz

If you can get a fiberglass stock w/ recoil plate down to 30oz, you would cut 1lb off rifle and it should weigh in @ approx 9lb +/-. If you could engineer a lighter recoil plate for the fiberglass stock, it should knock off another 1/4 pound.

Let me know which stock they use and how they would rig it for a recoil plate. I cannot see how one could be mounted w/out one.

Also, I think Brown Precision may inlet for the RSM as well.

GaryVA,

I just posted re: McMillan today on the Alaskan Forum (the big bore ammo availability post). When I talked to McMillan today, they said that they wouldn't be able to do it because they don't do custom work, and the RSM model was discontinued. From the website it looks like they do custom work, but the lady I talked to today was pretty emphatic that I'm out of luck, and that they don't have anything that they can fit to a .416 RSM. Who knows.

Thanks for the heads-up on Brown Precision. I will try to contact them in the next few days and see what they have to say.

MPI just said that they would stock, glass-bed, Decellerator, fully finished, etc. a Ruger RSM for $750-800.

What do you know about MPI?

I called Rimrock about stocking an M70 416Rem and was told it would not fit. It was suggested by a gunsmith to use the MPI"Dakota" stock. I have no experience w/ that company good or bad.

Did you contact Brown?

Which model Mcmillan stock blank does Mr. Satterlee use to inlet for the larger RSM w/ recoil plate? Do you know if he retains the factory recoil plate/forend screw system or does he make his own recoil plate?

Thanks
