This is my first time to use this kind of forum, so dont be offended if I do something wrong. I have read some of Jan from Swedens questions about a 900 grain woodleigh bullet. Do they have one? I have never found any in catalogs etc. Were do I find one. I live in Sweden also and I have two .585 Nyati rifles, one built in Sweden for me and one I have bought from Norway as used. So far have I just shoot a fallow deer with a 750 grain soft point Woodleigh bullet loaded with 120 grain Norma 204 powder. It was a perfect hit through both lungs and it run 150 m, not what you would expect. Now will I try 750 grain cast bullets that I got along with the rifle from Norway. It was one round along with the rifle and it was loaded with 94.5 grain of powder but I dont what kind. Is there someone that has shoot cast bullets in the .585 Nyati and can give me some suggestions of suitble speeds for the bullets. Before someone tells me to buy a book, I can tell you that in Sweden its not so easy to find these books and to order a book you havent seen isnt fun. I now about 3 .585 Nyati rifles that have been made in Sweden and that it has been made at least 2 in Norway. I would very much like to come in contact with Jan/Sweden if he would like. ------------------

Jan, Welcome to the forumn! This is a great and friendly bunch, don't fear asking questions. Occasionally there is a silly poster or two who gets the group riled up. I don't have a 585 Nyati yet, so can't help on load info. If you don't have Ross Seyfried's article, I'm sure someone here will e-mail it, or provide a link to somewhere that it is posted. In fact, you should use the search function to look up 585 Nyati on this board, as there is a wealth of information already here. As far as the 900 gr woodleigh, it was a special order item. I don't believe there are any books with load data printed, so this forumn should be your best place to get info, as there are several 585 shooters here.

Thank you for your answer. I have a copy of Rosss article, but since Im very new to this reloading stuff I thought its best to get as much info as possible before I start. Jan G

My 585 Nyati is just about finished and I plan to shoot it in the next few weeks. SCI is unfortunately in the way! I suggest you start with XMP5744 about 55-60 grs with your 750 gr cast bullets and go up from there. XMP5744 works really well in large volume cases doesn't require fillers and the pressure signs are usually gradual.I use this load in my 500A2 with 750 gr A-max's and its fun to shoot. I'd keep your velocities below 2000 fps even with pure Linotype bullets. I use the Linotype alloy in all my big bores w and w/o gas checks. They are very impressive. My gun has a muzzel break so I can't use pure lead paper patched bullets which would have blown a fist sized hole through your fallow deer. I get really excited about the very thought of a 750 gr pure lead paper patched bullet out of a 585 Nyati for varmints!-Rob

JAN G. I AM NOT SUPRISED YOUR DEER RAN OFF AFTER BEING HIT WITH A WOODLEIGH BULLET IN YOUR 585. THOSE BULLETS ARE DESIGNED FOR HEAVIER CONSTRUCTED ANIMALS. I HAVE USED HAWK BULLETS,(hawkbullets.com), IN MY 450/400 3 1/4 AND IN MY 9.3X 74R. THEY MAKE THEIR BULLETS OUT OF SOFT COPPER AND PURE LEAD IN DIFFERENT JACKET THICKNESS. I USE .408DIA. 300GR.x.025 RT IN THE .400 AT A VELOCITY OF 2300 TO 2400 FPS. IN THE 9.3 I USE .365DIA,285GR.x.035 RT. I HAVE GOTTEN EXCELLENT EXPANSION&PENETRATION. WILD PIGS CAN BE HARD TO KNOCK DOWN, I HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE PIG RUN AFTER BEING HIT WITH ONE OF THESE HAWK BULLETS. THOSE THAT I HAVE RECOVERED LOOK JUST LIKE THE ONES ON THER WEBSITE. THEY MAKE .585DIA. BULLETS IN 560GR.AND 750GR IN BOTH .035 JACKET, AND .065 JACKET THICKNESS. THE 560GR.x.035JKT SHOULD MAKE A DANDY LIGHT GAME BULLET FOR THE .585 NAYATI. LAST PRICE I SHOW IS $51.50 U.S. FOR A BOX OF 50. THEY HAVE PROVEN ACCURATE ALSO.

I have also think the same about woodleigh bullets. All guys says that the woodleigh 750 grain soft point are going to over expand if i shoot it at 2600 f/s on game. I thnik that the guys here mean on heavy game like the buffalo, but i mean on the swedish moose 150-300 kg. Do you guys think that the 750 grain woodleigh soft nose will over expand on the swedish moose at 2600 f/s...?
