Anyone else ever have trouble fitting rings to a 550?

My Warnes came in today but they will not sit flush on the rear bridge. they are canted to the right as you look from behind. Seems the recoil lug on the left side of the receiver/ring does not mate properly. Can't tell whether it is the ring lug or the recess in the receiver that is cut wrong.

I had the same problem fitting some Warne rings to a BRNO ZKK 602, the forerunner of the CZ 550 Magnum, same rings. It only took a few swipes with a file to get a custom fit of the ring recoil lug/tab into the recess on the action. Then a little polish and spot blue on the shiny spot. Look closer and see if the recoil tab on the ring can't be filed to fit. You don't have to be a gunsmith to get a solid lock-up.

If, instead, there is a burr or booger inside the recess on the integral action base, a Dremel polishing spud might be all you need, but be careful there, don't over do it. Should be simple. If not simple, consult your friendly neighborhood gunsmith.

In better light and with my glasses on I can see a ridge on the rings. Right near the base of the lug. It is interfering with the lockup. True enough I can fix it but it is a real pisser that $70 rings weren't machined correctly! You shouldn't need to have a smith fit up QD rings. Excepting of course a custom set.

z1r,
Yes, a bit of a pisser it is. But once you get over the shock and file it to fit, you are good as new, maybe better than a too loose fit.

There must be tolerances on the rings and the rifle, so that most of the time it works, but occasionally a larger peg encounters a smaller hole.

I have two sets of Warnes and one Talley QD lever ring set for the CZ 550. Both are very good stuff. I only had to do some filing on one set of Warnes.

If you got the Warnes for only $70, then you still got a bargain factoring in a little of your elbow grease and a file.
