It would be best to rechamber to .416 ASS_CLOWN "Improved Rigby"....mmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccchhhhhhhh cheaper. Far better velocity, much better case life, and you can still shoot factory ammo in it!!!

What do you think this rifle has been shooting the last 12 years? "Problem" is with the heavier than hell Ruger barrel a larger bore diameter would IMMENSELY improve the rifle's balance!

Tonto,

I would be shooting a 450 Rigby A LOT!

Yes, how about a 416 Ass-Clown? Get some of those 600OK cases and neck them down! Then the extra weight would be needed.

STOP...I voted wrong. Please detract one 450 vote and add one to the 550 column. In shame I will be changing my residence to Florida by the end of the week.

Why not neck a 700 down to 600 and put it in a bolt gun with a slant box magazine? 2400fsp with a 900gr bullet anyone? Has anyone tried this yet?

Robgunbuilder,

458 AssClown, not a bad idea! The Ruger has the lug extention so control should be there, I would have to fabricate a new mag box and floorplate however to get any kinda magazine capacity.

On the down side, it would be A LOT more work than a 460 WM or 500 A Square.

Of course I could also do a 510 AssClown. Have you already done a 50 caliber wildcat on the 600 OK (I am thinking you have, in which case my wildcat would seem redundant)?

More exotic I could do a .488 AssClown and shoot 475 No 2 Jeffery bullets. That would be unique.

Of course a 475 AssClown would have the added appeal of cheap 400 gr pistol bullets for varmint hunting and plinking.

So very many possibilities.

Well.....if it's simply balance you're looking for just get out a hacksaw and have at it.....

Shovel a little more coal in the Stoker to compensate for the loss of barrel length, reattach the front sight and walla.....problem solved.

You don't need new dies, reamers, bullets, shell holders, etc. .......just a hack saw.

Now at .284 Lb/in^3 density of steel.....the difference in weight in the difference between a .416 bore and a .450 bore is.......2 1/2 ounces!

This is starting to smell vaguely like an excuse to rechamber more so than a practical solution to balance!
