Fellas: Didn't y'all have some sort of a nice, simple, relaxing double rifle shoot in Austin or Houston last summer? Wasn't it something like two shots offhand at 100, and four shots offhand at cape buff target on a pulley coming for you? Can you refresh me? Some of us fellas that shoot percussion doubles are thinking of doing a similar shoot, except with muzzleloaders. Maybe we'll call it the Oswell Baker Gordon-Cumming Memorial Double Whammy or some such ... Many thanks.

Bill, Mac & Rusty have "seen the light" and have given up, entirely, using double rifles. Rusty is now using a .30-40 Krag and Mac has ordered a Springfield in .45-70. [ 05-29-2003, 00:51: Message edited by: Nickudu ]

Ive heard you can load them trapdoor 45/70s pretty heavy if you hold your thumb on the door when you shoot. Dean Ps Ive never seen a double in 30-40, can I shoot them out of my double 410?

Nickudu, get thee behind me! Right after I get my 404 Jeffery! Bill we did have a great time of it. We used the 50 yard range. We set up a target at 25 and a target at 50. We engaged the 25 with two rounds and reloaded and fired as if the buff were going away and fired two rounds at the 50 yard target. The moving target was an augured anchor put in the berm or tied to a tree as I remember? With the use of two pulleys and we ran some medium nylon cord from the berm to the firing line cover. We moved the target by standing behind the shooter about 20 yards from, the berm where the target was. The "puller just walked away toward the firing line and the shooter had to shoot twice before the target covered the 20 yards. Simple yet, a lot of fun! All stations started with rounds loaded. The first stage required a reload as if in the field following up on the 50 yard target. The moving target started with rounds loaded rifle at port arms. Two rounds fired Here is a link showing some pictures. Double Rifle Shoot, Fun in the Sun here is the email address of the kind fellow in RSA who I bought the Buff targets from. He has other targets available. gawieh@aviation.denel.co.za Hope this helps. I would have held another this year, however events of my mother's passing have taken up most of my time. Let us know how your shoot goes. [ 05-29-2003, 02:07: Message edited by: Rusty ]
