John: As LHander you don't have to many choices when it comes to calibers. I have a few Weatherbys for that reason only,as far as production rifles (not the semi or custom) it usualy stops at a 30 Cal. So if you like a 45 cal big boomer in LH you better buy it,ofcourse if CZ would build a LH CRF in 45 or up we would not have this discusion but they don't. If I was you I would get it for the best deal I could and buy a drop floorplate ass. from Weatherby ($150)this would make it into a 3 cart. magazine. Regards Martin

John I have previously owned two 460s that are the same as the one you are referring to, that is, the earlier Made in Japan models with all the small holes. They were called a Pendleton De Kicker. The negatives for me, and which might apply to you were: 1) The very long freebore makes working with mid range reduced loads quite difficult because of hangfires and doubly so with lighter than 500 grain bullets. Although loading down to 458 Winchester 500 grain ballistics is easy and very accuracte. 85 grains IMR 4064 and 500 grain Hornady. A bit over 2000 f/s. Once you go much below those ballistics hangfires will occur unless you drop way down to loads with shotgun powders. From memory I used 28 grains of Hi Score 700 X with 400 grain Speer for a bit over 1300 f/s and very good accuracy. However, I think Accurate arms make a powder with a number like 5544 or similar and that powder would allow loads that are between factory 45/70 and 458 Win ballistics. We never had this powder in Australia. 2) I would never again own a rifle with an integral muzzle break. The reason is that with reduced loads you don't need a brake but you are stuck with it when it is integral. 3) I always had a problem with Made in Japan on the side of a rifle that conveys such Americana in its styling. I would not be put off by those who are advocating CRF actions and feeding as the 460 is a vertical stack magazine and I would bet on it for reliable feeding (especially with very blunt bullets) over any staggered magazine rifle. By the way, the Pendleton De Kicker is not very effective at reducing the recoil as compared to the muzzle brakes fitted to current Wbys. Mike

John, imho, i would pass on the weatherby... for the money... one could buy a cz in 458 lott, which is about all most folks will WANT to handle for 700... new, and the ammo is easier to come buy. or, would could buy a cz and rebarrel to 450 rigby or 470 mbogo, with like sights and for a total of the same 1200 or so, including a 3 pos safety... or 550 mag or 550 express... or 510 wells.... the 460, with TWO rounds down, jsut doesn't cut it for me jeffe

I think you have received mostly good advice. It is too much money for what it is. A two shooter just doesn't make sense to me anyway you look at it.

Quote: Run the other way. You can purchase a left handed Winchester model 70 in .458 and have it opened up to .458 Lott for all the power you will need and a more reliable rifle.

USRAC has not deigned to offer a left-hand M-70 in .458 Win. Mag. George

Because the largest caliber the LH M70 comes in is .375. You have to buy such a rifle then rebarrel. Sad, but true.

When you see my nickname, it probably dont come as a shock to you that I own a 460 Wby. Mine is buildt on a ZKK602 action. I've shot this rifle a lot, and with pretty stiff loads too, but hav no problem handle it. YES, the recoil is heavy, and without the muzzlebrake you'll know when the bullet leaves. And, as Ray says; if you leave out a couple of grains of powder you'll have a wonderfull big game-buster!! A tip: Use a Pachmayr Triple Mag. on it, you'll do your benchshooting in t-shirt without pain!

Ok- I own a .460 wby that I modified to hold 3 down. It is a whore of a gun. Now listen up Mike 375( I know Weatherby's seem to attract you-like flies to shit),but it has CHEAP LOOKS, a crappy action and a somewhat crude appearance ( the type of weopon only someone with no breeding like Mike 375 would own- in one word-YUK). It will not drive a 500gr bullet over 2650fps without major pressure signs( read your soon gonna die) kind of signs. I'm unimpressed and would never pay over maybe $1000 or less for a brand new one. IMHO A .450 Ackley or Lott on a pre 64 model 70 is a much better gun.-Rob

George S Could you check if the IGNORE function is still working as Robgunbulider can still read my postings and as you know he has said several times that he has me on IGNORE mode. I don't think it is fair that Robgunbuilder has to read my postings when he has chosen to apply IGNORE mode to my postings. George, keep in mind that posters like Robgunbuilder depend on the IGNORE function......and apparently it is not working. Mike
