Which McMillian stock pattern? Login/Join

I'm going to have a "all weather" rifle built on a M-70 action in a .375 caliber. The rifle will have a 26" barrel with a McMillian fiberglass stock. Which pattern do you recommend (they have several for the M-70 action)? Is it possible to use D'Arcy Echols Legend pattern or is it considered proprietary property?

Thanks!

You can buy a McMillian/Echols stock from D'Arcy and it would be my first choice. I have one on my 375 and another McMillian M-70 ftw style on another.

Phil,

What is it that you like about D'Arcy's stock pattern? I have never handled one - read an article about it in the Rifle Magazine (May 2002).

Thanks!

For a large bore that might require fast handling I like the laid back grip on the Echols stock as well as the overall feel. It is a classic style and one of the reasons serious hunters who can afford them choose them.

Exactly what Phil said. I'm having Lon Paul put one on a 375 Weatherby he is builing for me. He recommends it over several other stocks because of the overall quality, design and lack of finish work to install it.

This post is really interesting to me. I'm building a 375 Weatherby on a model 70 Winchester also and was looking into the HS Precision stock. Does anyone know the difference in weight between the two and what the butt end of the stock measures (length and width).
Thanks a lot,
Dave
