with an aside to RIP: this is probably pretty close to what you had in mind, which I hope proves that great minds think alike...two-may-toh or too-mah-to.

I will avoid controversy by stating up front that is is basically a 510 Wells minus the belt. No need to reinvent the wheel here, just eliminate the un-necessary belt...which belong on a mans pants not his DGR cartridge. If I can figure out how to import and paste it here I will. Easiest to just say reference page 679 of Ken HOwell's excellent treatise "Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions, and lose the belt. CH4D has 510 Wells dies in stock, and I will make the case from them. Dave Kiff promises me the reamers will be here in my fat little fingers in less than two weeks. I got the dies and made up a dummy using 650gr cast bullets from my 50-110 HiWall until I can get a nice 590-600gr mold made up with a gascheck. The dummy fits very nicely in my Wisner bottom metal for the Remington M1934 I have had for several years. Any interst and I can work with you to get the reamers out as soon as mine is done.

regards,

Rich

Sounds like an interesting project.

Cool! Way to go. thumb
I am devoted to a straight RIPoff of the 470 Mbogo necked up to .510 bullet, with the chamber cut to 3.000" length, trim brass to 2.990" if it ever gets long enough. Wink Tomayto/tomahto. thumb

My cartridge is the "500 Mbogo RIPoff."

It will be precision chambered with a 470 Mbogo reamer (floating pilot for .510 barrel) and a .510 throat and neck reamer that can give a chamber length of 2.945" for the faint of heart or 3.000" for the bold.

Similar procedures have worked superbly well for the .338 Lapua Magnum based "RIPoff" line in .375, .423, and .458 Lapua RIPoff.

I did get Dave Kiff to make a 300 Lapua Magnum reamer with 300 Weatherby throat for my ".308 Lapua Semi-RIPoff."

Cheers. beer

Rich,
Typo? You mean John J. Donnelly's book, page 679, right? Dr.Ken Howell's book does not have as many pages as that (but Howell is a much better reference for reliability of the numbers).

Pending the specs of the .510 Kayser Express, here are some .510 Wells dimensions from Donnelly for starters:

case length: 2.88"
neck diameter: .534"
neck length: .430"
loaded length: 3.644"
case capacity: 147.37 grains of water
Donnelly says the shoulder angle is 6.74 degrees/side. His typo? bewildered

What is the real shoulder angle of the .510 Kayser Express?

Now to get some more mileage out of this photo of the 500 Mbogo RIPoff barrel:

It is in the rough, with a 1.320" diameter lump to be turned into a recoil lug and express sight island, stainless 10" twist McGowen .510 caliber, 0.820" at the 28" point on the muzzle. Finish length to be 23" to 25"???

BTW,
Apparently McGowen supplies barrels in this pattern made of chrome-moly and .505 caliber for CZ-USA to turn into .505 Gibbs.

I guess CZ-USA shapes the lump into their recoil contraption and dovetails it for the express sight insert.

Something simpler than the "recoil contraption" would be desirable.
