Talley or Warnes I would use, you should not have any troubles.

I have the Leupold QR style where the levers are on the bases and the rings have a stud that fits and secures into the base. This is on my Winchester M70 in 416RM. I have a Leupold 1.5x5 scope and have taken it on and off numerous time just to see if there is a change in POI, but, thus far they have held up well. Maybe 200 rounds through the rifle with this wet up.

The one negative for my rifle, and it may be different on the 700's, with this system is that the rear base extends over the rear reciever ring and into the magazine opening. Don't know if it would come into play, but it may slow down reloading.

I have the same rifle and I am using the warne QD mounts.
They work very well, they hold the zero everytime I take the scope
off and on. I have an extra set of rings on a spare scope I will be
taking with me to Zambia this year, if I need to change scopes the spare
one is sighted in and ready to go.

I am a confirmed Talley fan, they are machined better in the fit department, and on a trued receiver return to zero better than anything I have previously used, and I have used about all of them..Truth is most folks just think there removed scopes will return to zero, damn few will return within 3 inches in the many tests that I have run...

I have conducted many tests over the years on detachable rings and bases as I love the use of iron sights, and hunt a lot of dangerous game where QDs adorn ALL my rifles...The ones that have returned within 1" in my tests are:

European and US custom made claw mounts, these are the very best I have used. Cost about $300 or more.

Griffen and Howe side mounts if properly installed, but they have a tendency to change the group to a lateral group shape it seems to me, but they are excellent..

Talleys are the most practical, least expensive, and when properly installed are almost as accurate as the hand fitted claws..When the Talleys are hand fitted on a surface ground receiver then they are as good as the claw mounts, but thats expensive.

Leupold came in about the middle and I think they too would be very accurate if hand fitted and on a surface ground receiver....

As one can see the hand fitted to a receiver that is square to the world makes a lot of difference on the quick detachable rings and bases..not so important on the non detachables but again thats another story and a whole nuther ball game...

Ocassionally one gets a square to the world receiver in a factory rifle, but that is the exception to the rule I suspect...and if he is really lucky then he will get a set of factory rings that are properly ground to fit that special receiver, then the seas will part and the second coming is very near! thumb

We are talking about a Rem 700 here. No need to install mounts which are worth more than the rifle. thumb

I have used Talleys on both my 416 and 375 (both model 70s) and agree with Ray. They are excellent and I have yet to have trouble with point of impact moving when putting a scope back on after removal.

I have always used Conetrol QD's and have had no problems what so ever. Recoil doesn't affect them and they always come back to P.O.A.. I cant say that of other brands i have tried. Hope this helps you out. Charlie
