OK, it's not quite like your big bores. It's a Martini action rook rifle in 380 Long that weighs about 4 1/2 pounds. I had some loads made up that were real low pressure, 93 gr. lead RN at an estimated 850 FPS. At 50 yds. it's several inches high, a few of them tumbled, but for the first time shooting it I was pretty pleased. Even with my eyes and too light/short a bullet it wants to shoot around 2 1/2" at 50. And that's with an estimated 15-20 pound trigger pull. You think I kid you, but after 30 rounds I could barely feel my trigger finger.

Next up, some 148 gr. cast RN and try to get the velocity up to 1100 FPS.That's about the load it was meant to shoot so should be able to get it down around 1 1/2" at 50.

Now don't go buying one of these for your Cape Buffalo gun, it's more suited to Texas rabbits. Even then you might have to track them for a bit.

You are aware, aren't you, that the 380 Long fires bullets of .376 diameter?

BTW,have you shot your Medallion 458 yet?I suggest you send it to Jack Belk to have it bedded if you plan on shooting it.I am sending my Safari 458 to him this week to be bedded. His prices are more than reasonable.

Brian.

BG: I had a very similar rook rifle on a small early Martini action with tapered 28-inch barrel that weighed about 5 pounds. It was made by a chap in Scotland. Unfortunately, the chamber and bore were too heavily pitted to save, so I had it relined from .380 to .32-20. Never got a chance to try it on rabbits, but it sure had style points.

Hi Brian, nope the Medallion is sitting down in the vault, don't want it around the house or I'll be tempted to start shooting it.

I know the 380 is supposed to be .376 but I had a gunsmith slug both of mine and one came in at .363 and the other at ?, oops, I don't have the sheet in front of me but just a tad larger. The second one I haven't started shooting yet because I need to replace the rear sight and haven't found a suitable one yet. By the way I'm using 38 Long Colt cases for these guns.

I'm also having Hawk make up some .300" 140 gr. bullets for the .300 Sherwood Martini, already have cases and dies so should be shooting it next month.
