In a earlier post I mentioned that I had a Ruger #-1 stainless in 45-70. This rifle is new. My original plan was to toss on a quoted pac-nor brl I had in mind with a special 1-12" twist. The caliber would a 500 N.E. 3". One poster had mentioned that this might be a problem because, even if I rebarrle... the contour has to closly match the contour of the original brl. Is this true? If so ...why? Maybe this one will just have to turned into a "new" 9.3X74R. take care, smallfry

You could send your barrel to PAC-NOR and have them duplicate the same factory profile for you. I know that the 45-70 version has a smaller barrel but I am not sure if it uses the same hanger as the 458 Winchester version. If it does have the same hanger then you should be able to modify the fore end to fit the new barrel profile. Good luck.

Or you could send the whole rifle to Dennis Olson and let him figure it out. What you get back will be high quality and it will work.

The barrel diameter has to be small enough to not interfere with the forend hanger setup....
