Holy badass, batman!!! I have a CZ550 in the venerable Rigby, but WOW in a hunting handcannon!?! Share those pictures of the beast for sure! Way, Way Cool! [ 06-21-2002, 08:29: Message edited by: mindcrime ]

I told you the recoil wouldn't be bad . Can you post a picture?. Spent last evening/night in my tree-stand with my 470 NE Encore waiting for a nice black bear. He never came, but a grizzly decided to wake me up at around 2 AM. Nothing to wake you up like a 9 ft grizzly snorting and stomping his feet 15ft below you in the dark .

AWTC: How much velocity are you losing with the shorter 15" bbl? When I got my Encore I went with the .50 Alaskan and have found that I am only losing about 150 fps in this round, and that dropping from a listed 22" bbl. down to my 12" bbl. I have two Rigby rifles and can easily get 2500 fps with 400 gr. bullets or more if I want to really stoke the fire, but considering the volume of powder I shoot (103 to 110 gr.) I feared too much velocity loss by going to a shorter barrel. Since the .50 AK is not such a large volume case, and I found a used SSK barrel at one hell of a deal, I went that route but have been considering a .416 Rigby barrel also for longer range use. Unless I shoot the 750 gr. A-Max (which is sure no hunting bullet with its needle-nose tip and 1250 fps) out of my .50 AK, it is a 150 yard at best gun.

Getting 2000 FPS with 96 grains of re22 in a 15 in. barrel. Probably can get to 2100 but WILL not! JD said that is enough. Nearing the 4000 ft. lb category and 70-90 of recoil although does not feel like it. So I guess Alliant powder site says 2350 with above charge out of a 24 in. barrel. 38.8 fps per in. of barrel loss which is on par with the 25-40fps thought. 50 Alaskan...nice is it a 50 AK 750?

BIGBORE Sorry the bullet weight is 400 grainers at 2000 FPS

.50 AK 750, well yes and no. It was not specifically designed for the 750 gr. bullet, but the nose and ogive is so darn long on those A-Max that even though the bullet is over 2" long, it does not need a long throat nor does it need to be seated any deeper in the case than does a 450 gr. bullet. The twist is for the normal 450 to 570 gr. bullets, but so far, it is shooting the 750s just fine also out to 300 yards. I "need" a longer range barrel for the Encore, and from what you are telling me, I think my crystal ball says there will be a Rigby barrel in the not too distant future.

Dear BigBore I think my crystal ball says there will be a Rigby barrel in the not too distant future. You won't be dissapointed. Did ya see Efreyman and his 470 NE from VVG. He shoots 500 gain solids at 1950 FPS from a 15. in encore. Even reload ammo is expensive but, a great choice.

AWTC, man that's awesome.!!! Are you going to try RL 15? I've had better results with that and varget in shorter barrels. Seems the slow powders burn LOTS of % outside the barrel when you use a short barrel. quickload has a suggested load, if you want an email of it.... you'll have to use a wad on it, but wow, that sounds awesome jeffe
