Would you hunt buffalo w/ a 45-120 loaded in a modern rifle like a Ruger or even a double? How close would this be to the old .450 express rounds?

Quote: Of course not. I would hunt them with a .45-110, .45-100, or .45-90, or even a .45-70 loaded like they are supposed to be in a Sharps. 60 million dead ones prove this is quite feasible. Why use a historical cartridge (well sorta historical, the 120 was never made by Sharps), in a modern gun? Sorta defeats the purpose no? Brent

Would I hunt Cape Buff with such a gun. Yes unequivocably. I'm sure you could match 450#2 ballistics easily. Heck I'd duplicate the 450#2 loads almost exactly in the 45-120 and Not worry a Bit assuming you had good extraction and a good Back-up PH just in case. With all due respect to the bolt actions I love, the truth is I can reload and shoot a Ruger #1 just about as fast as I can work a bolt action. However, nothing is as fast as a good double!-Rob

Quote: Which species of 'buffalo'? Bison? Water buffalo? Cape buffalo? Are you talking blackpowder with soft lead loads, or smokeless with proper bullets? George
