Has anyone tried Barns Vor-Tx Safari 570 TSX FB 500 N.E. on Buffalo? How does it regulate in a Double rifle?

Guess you will just have to shoot it to know how it will regulate in YOUR rifle, makes no difference what other rifles will do, barrels are an inity unto themselves you know.

As to effectiveness for The Barnes Vor-Tex ammo on Buffalo, I'm sure it will work on Buffalo, Its been my experience that monolithic bullets, especially Barnes work best on big heavy animals such as buffalo...Ive seen that bullet work on a lot of buffalo, but not the ammo, but that's of no consequence, its the bullet that counts.

I ordered some yesterday, I will see how they shoot? Normally I would reload myself but I have a short notice hunt in two month's and I already had two trips lined up ahead of this one. I still have to reload for my backup. 450/400

The following is just my own opinion.

I would not use Barns TSX in a double rifle.
I am talking about internal ballistics only.

If bore diameter is not ideal for the bullet then pressure/friction issues can develop.

My first choice for monolithic bullets in a double would be NorthFork and CEB. The driving bands are reportedly better designed for the application and therefore more forgiving.

Slider, Not that I know of.

Both NF and CEB seem like helpful folks when I have talked to them a couple of times. Maybe they know of a "tame" handloader that would load you up a couple of boxes.

I have used both brands in 375 HH, solid, on Cape Buffalo. That Cup Point Solid from NF is my favourite. It opened up a bit to a wide flat, sharp edged meplat and cut a devastating wound channel from the brisket to the guts.

The NorthFork " soft is very tough and will really holds together. It might be one of the best "soft" bullets for Cape buffalo on the market. ( It will pass through small plains game often. I think that is why NF developed their PP soft which is opens up better for lions.)

I am a bit surprised that no one spoke up about the issues associated with monolithic (solid shank) bullets in doubles. That is one of the very things that makes NF, CEB and GS Custom bullets superior on internal ballisitcs. They will also have slightly lower pressures and higher velocity, everything else being equal. They wizz down the barrel with little or no fouling.
I find them to be accurate as well. Brian

Yes both rounds are safe for doubles and we have done extensive testing in this regard.

Actually you made a very valid point,the Tsx is a great bullet,but can have issues when used in a DR,I speak from personal experience,I have shot them out of three DR's,had problems with only one gun,I use only NF or Woodleigh bullets now in my DR's.

Bill73 what brand Double did you have problems with?

Chapuis in 9.3x74R,the gun had to be re-regulated,one thing to note,this rifle had very thin barrels,I have had issues with another DR with thin barrels,although I do not remember which bullets I was shooting out of that gun at the time.

Yes, it's not a matter of them being safe or not. Of course they are safe. They are just not the first choice for aficionados of Double Rifles because of their driving band design. NF and CEB are better that way.

Having said that, I recognize that TXS bullets are extremely popular. And, Slider, whatever bullets you use on your hunt, you will have a super hunt and we are happy for you! In fact, I am a bit jealous. Brian
