I've found a few different reloads, but I'm still looking for the two I will stick with for use on buffalo with solids and softs.

Should I go for energy or speed?

Also, am I better off with the 400, 450, or 500 grainer's?

I'm open to all powder suggestions, but would like to keep it to one powder. Only two if need be, I'm a minimalist.

Thanks in advance for the help, Jerry

I like IMR 4320 in the Lott I use 80 grs behind the 500gr Woodlieghs. Seems to be a real nice load for a velocity of around 2200fps. I've also used IMR4064 but like 4320 better.

Minkman,

Do a search on this site for Lott loads and you will find good info. JJHack loves Barnes 450Xs and uses Rel 7 IIRC. I started loading 450Xs over 82 grains 4320 and like the load. Recoils like a warm 416 Rigby load. I haven't crono'ed it yet but should be +2300FPS with less recoil then the full 500gr loads.

I like 84 grains of IMR4320 behind a 500 grain Woodleigh bullet.

If you are going to use a monolithic bullet, you might want to try a 450 grainer to preserve some of the powder space in the case. Otherwise, I would stick to 500 grain bullets which have better sectional density and therefore penetrate deeper.
