I've been thinking that putting a scope on the ole' .375 would be a good idea. I know that if I ask about what brand I should get it's going to be all hands up for Leupold. Now I like Leupolds but I've been thinking about a Burris this time. Have any of you had any problems with Burris on hard kicking guns? Are they the equal of Leupold? Thanks in advance.

JR,
I'm not sure about the recoil on the big rifles. I don't think that will be a problem though. I bought a Burris fullfield 3X9 and put it on a #1 in 3006. The problem is : the thing is blurry. I ended up selling this rifle to a friend with the scope on it and he says the same thing. We have tried the eye piece adjustment etc. I am thinking we should have sent it back to Burris but we have not yet.
When you get your Burris.......take it out and look through it at the range before mounting it on a rifle. My Burris looked clear in the gun shop but when I got it on a rifle and out to the ranges things were different.
Good luck,
Terry

Go with the Leupold the eye relief is better
& less critical.

I've got a Leupold fixed 4X, and I'm real happy with it. The eye relief is longer than my 3-9x, and the rear bell area is smaller than any variable. That let me mount it far enough forward that it doesn't pop me in the head when I shoot sitting or prone (never noticed that thing hanging so far back shooting it off the bench or offhand).

JR I think you should go with the tried and true leupold. There is a fellow on this forum called stone creek who swears by VX11 2-7x33's he convinced me to use one on my 416 rigby over the 20 mm objective. There well priced and have good eye relief and suits rifles uses, and would probably be ideal for a .375.

I've had real good luck outta my Burris Compacts. I have one on my .280 and one on my .338; no problems so far. I like 'em a lot.

I bought my first in a long series of Leupolds back in 1971, a 4x & a 2x7. Both are still in perfect working order though a bit scratched up never had to be sent in for any problems! 2002-1971=31 years! damn I'm getting old!

JR:

One scope is not a representative sample, but I had the Burris 1.75x6 on my .375 H&H. The optics are good and clear, and it holds zero reliably, but the reticle broke after about 500 rounds. Burris fixed the scope, but it took them three months from the time I sent it to them to when I got it back. I have had Leupold scopes go out, but they turned them around in one week. The Burris scope has been moved to a .30-06, and I replaced it with a Leupold.

Based on my experience, I would opt for the Leupold and go with either the 1.75x6, 2x7, or 2.5x8 on the .375. If you want a lower magnification scope, I have a spare 1.5x5 Leupold for sale.
