Guys, Back in the summer I ask if someone on the forum might be able to cast me some 470 NE bullets so I could try them in the Searcy Double Rifle. Sean was kind enough to hand me some 500 gr GCFPs on a trip to Houston. Had a mold made by the successors to H&G (Ballisti-Cast). The little double mould is just beautiful. Made some slugs, worked up some loads with XMR 5744 that print terrific groups at 100 yards. They're turning 1500 fps at the muzzle. Today being the first day of gun season in West Virginia, and having taken a very nice 10 point a week ago with a bow ... I decided not to be picky and look for good freezer fodder. At 4:05, in walks three deer. A yearling, a doe, and a nice little 4 point with a relatively heavy body. Right barrel, 1 round, aim, carefully squeeze when the presentation and sight picture are good. Range lasers 52 yards. Small boom (these things really aren't very loud.) The subject jumped higher than I have ever seen a white tail go, lands on his feet, and makes about 30 yards before the adrenalin simply gives out. He drops and it's all over. Hit was center chest, right side, just behind the foreleg. Entry wound is .476", exit isn't much bigger. Slightly angled to the back because of his stance at impact. Old 45-70 ballistics still kills deer very, very dead with little trackup required on a good hit. Searcy works GREAT. Thank you Butch! Gotta love it. Wednesday I'll drag the trusty .41 Mag S&W revolver into the field and see if I can put meat in the freezer with it fours years in a row.

Mike, Way to go! I told you your deer would be airborne for a spell after you shot it, I just didn't figure on straight up. NE450 No 2 We've got Wild Boar here in WV but heavy accent on Wild. They principally live in several Southern counties that are too steep for anything else to live on and have learned to disappear down ground squirrel holes!

NE 450 No2 I'm not quite sure about the regs in regards to hogs lately. I'm sure no baiting and no dawgs. It was run by lottery for the tags, but I'm not up to date as I'm still tired from the last time I tried ten years ago.
