Pricing is a pretty good question. The stuff looks way too nice to be a $2000 big bore.

I looked at one of the new production Mauser 98's which was about $7K or so, and IMO the finish quality was not acceptable for that price range. In fact, I considered it worse than even a Dakota! Overall they are sound rifles, but I think the price is not where it ought to be.

Good looking pictures but I hate their open sights. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money." - Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953 NRA Life, SAF Life, CRPA Life, DRSS lite

Robin, Wood to metal fit was not very good. Wood quality looked like a $150 stock blank. Action was a bit rough, like a CZ. Sharp edges remained inside the action. They also put some kind of steel block behind the bolt handle to create friction with the bolt handle. I don't know what that was for, but I never saw it on a vintage Mauser. And I recall that the sights were not so hot. Mauser just needs to spend time time and effort in finishing the gun properly. It just looked like it had been made in a hurry. Personally I would much rather commission a custom rifle from one of the many fine American makers than to spend the money on one of the new Mausers, based on what I saw. The one I looked at was imported by Mitchell's Mausers by the way.
