Currently have a 270 pre 64 custom FW and was thinking of using a pre 64 300 H&H for a 404 jeff to go with it. Good pairing?

I already have 2 other pairs; FNs in 9.3x62 and 458wm, and 70 classic stainless in 375 ouch and ouch with a 470 capstick.

I love the input on these ideas you guys come up with.

No offense, but I think the .338 Win. Mag. is a better complement to your .270, unless this is to be an African rifle battery.

interesting... I have just tried to have one slightly more obscure cartridge in each pair. FWIW I try to build with an eye to Africa on all of these. I always have thought that I can use them here or there.

Haven't seen the custom pre64-270 or the 300H&H (please post pics).....but I don't think you should use a pre-64 300 H&H as a "donor gun" Mad

Buy a used model 70 (300 RUM or 375) for your 404 project.

Going to Africa with model 70's in 300 H&H and
404 Jeffery would be "classic" beer

The .300H&H is obscure enough, these days. Wink

I LOVE my 404, but I have to agree with AZ on this one....DON'T use a 300 H&H as a donor....too many RUM's out there available for the donor...and good prices in this economy.
Hang on to the 300.

Funny- I was considering the same thing. I was contemplating either a .416 Rem Mag or a .404 on a pre-64 300 H&H action. I have 2 of the 300s- 1 has been reblued and was going to be my donor.

By all means please don't use an original and serviceable 300 H&H pre 64 model 70 as a donor. If it has been altered , Go For It!

The classic Model 70 battery would be a 270 Win, 300 H&H and 375 H&H. If you have an unaltered M70 in 300 H&H, I definitely wouldn't tear it apart to build a 375 (or 404 Jeffery) but if it's just an action, go for it. Personally though, I think a 404 Jeffery belongs on a Mauser action.
