Hi all, would like to get your feedback if I could.

After my last (first ever) trip to Africa I got back home and decided to invest in a switch barrel rifle system. Tip Burns at Canyon Lake Sporting Goods advised the Mauser M03 system.

I sold off a bunch of guns to buy an M03 "Extreme" in .375 H&H and immediately had a problem with the magazine. It would lock into the receiver, but would not feed a round into the chamber. Tip sent me a new magazine ... no problems (for a while).

Since then I have purchased a barrel and magazine for 30-06. I have been shooting 30-06 for the past six months.

Today I went to the range to sight in a new scope for the .375 and the magazine started falling out. The loaded magazine would fall out almost every other shot. An unloaded magazine would not fall out.

I called Lee at Blaser-USA who said to send it in. Now, I have a lot of money (for me)invested in this rifle and I really want it to work right.

The rifle is supposed to be able to fire up to .458 Lott rounds. The magazine should, under no circumstances be falling out under any amount of recoil.

Have any of you M03 owners experienced this problem, and has it been resolved successfully?

Thanks for your feedback,

Al

I had an issue with my M03 458 not feeding properly i sent the gun to Lee and he modified the magazine to where it feeds reliably.Between Tip and Lee they should be able to resolve your issue. I have a 375 that feeds and functions perfectly. keep us posted on the outcome

Thanks for the encouragement. For the money I paid for this system it should work right every time.

How do you like the M03 in .458
lott?

Once the feeding issue was resolved i found my M03 to be reliable and accurate. I leave tommorow for Zimbabwe to hunt with Pelandaba safaris and the lott is going with me, Will post a report when i come back.
thx

I had issues with the 404 at first--it took a mag change--no worries after that. That is why you pay what you do-- its got a 10year warranty--Tip and Lee will get it sorted-- I have to say once you go and travel with a takedown rifle you will not go back. The Mauser/Blaser is one of the most accurate systems out there. Too expensive, but they do shoot!!!!

I own a M03 Africa in cal. 458 Lott. I have used it quite a lot and never had any problems with fully loaded magazines (4 cartridges with 500 grains bullets). I went with it on two safaris (2006 and 2008) – no problems whatsoever.

I published an article in the “African Expedition” online magazine. There website is:

africanxmag.com

You will find my article “The Mauser M03 Africa .458 Lott: New thunder in the Bushveld” in their May Edition 2009, pages 36 to 41.

If the problem with your M03 continues, please let me know. I could try to contact Mauser here in Germany.

Cheers, Hans

This weekend I took a trip up to the Blaser-Usa office in San Antonio. There I met with Lee, who inspected my M03 stock and magazine. Within a minute he had diagnosed the problem as a small lip on the magazine that needed to be adjusted where the magazine locks into the stock. He went into the back, used a tool to make the adjustment and returned the stgock and magazine.

On sunday I was at the rifle range to see how the repair held up and to sight in a new scope. 20 rounds later the magazine was still holding tight and the rifle was (somewhat) sighted in.

At Blaser I also had the pleasure to handle the 22" "PH" barrel for the M03 in 416 Rem Mag. For those of you who have the standard stock (like me), it will only take a little shaving down the barrel channel at the forend in order to make the standard stocks fit the "African" or "PH" barrels.

I had a MO3 and had a similar issue.

Can you see a locking screw in the front part of the bottom of your detachable magazine ? The tension of this dictates how tight the magazine locks to the action. Play around with it and you might be surprise how easy it is to solve the problem you described.
